Sunday TV Ratings 3/18/18: Instinct Has a Mediocre Start, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Beats The Simpsons (UPDATED)

Sunday night was full of series premieres, sports, timeslot changes, and shows returning from hiatus. For some of the above mentioned, things went well. For others, they just... didn't. The most notable premiere last night was CBS's Instinct, which managed to avoid a fractional premiere. That's all the good news for Instinct, which seems to be more of an afterthought than a show CBS thought would be viable Sunday viewing. The Alan Cumming vehicle received a decent lead in from 60 Minutes, which had an above-average result due to an NCAA boost, so it definitely could have done better. It just didn't. Later in CBS's night, NCIS: LA was steady-ish with 0.9/0.8 halves, and Madam Secretary stayed low with a 0.6. NBC also had a big night. Well not really in the ratings department. Little Big Shots had a terrible return at 7 PM at 0.8, with a mediocre 1.1 at 8 PM. Its higher-rated episode could only match its low from Summer 2017, and its earlier episode easily hit a new low. So, not a promising start in any way, especially considering how the show declined over time last season. Behind it was the Genius Junior premiere. With a 1.0 start, decent is really the nicest thing that can be said about this premiere. At 10, Timeless inched down to a fine 0.7, still ahead of its series low from early 2017. Fox brought back its Sunday lineup from Fall, swapping out Ghosted for Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Things didn't go too well there, but there was a big surprise. Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which was drawing little interest on Tuesdays, successfully re-transitioned to Sundays with a 0.9. It beat its Simpsons lead-in, and easily soared to a season high. The rest of the night didn't go so well, as The Simpsons scored a series low, while The Last Man on Earth tied its own low. Bob's Burgers was down at 7:30, but managed to avoid its low. Family Guy's high-profile commercial-free episode drew lower ratings that usual, but still was Fox's #1 show.

Finals Update: Deception (-0.1) and 60 Minutes (-0.1) adjusted down. American Idol (+0.1), Aerica's Funniest Home Videos (+0.1), and Bob's Burgers (+0.1) adjusted up.
