Musical drama 'Empire' (0.8) ended its six-season run with a makeshift series finale on Fox. The series was up one-tenth from its last episode but failed to cement a new season high, losing out to its September 2019 premiere (1.0). While a far cry from its 5th season finale (1.2), it was still a minor improvement over a few rotten data points in March. At 8, the network had another repeat of reality series 'The Masked Singer' (0.5).
The 'Empire' series finale was put to shame by a CBS special focusing on iconic singer Prince (1.0). It was also the only program to pass the 1.0 threshold for the night. Its lead-in was a strong encore of 'NCIS' (0.7).
ABC's 'For Life' (0.4) lost a tick at 10pm, falling to a new season low, It had little lead-in assistance as the comedies were all in repeat mode (0.6/0.4/0.4/0.3). The 9:30pm 'black-ish' repeat (0.3) posted a particularly ugly result.
NBC had repeats of 'Ellen's Game of Games' (0.8/0.7) and 'New Amsterdam' (0.4). The CW housed the return of centerpiece drama 'The Flash' (0.4) and 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.2), both even with their last episodes.
Finals Update: The repeat of New Amsterdam (-0.1) adjuted down.
