Lovecraft Country Canceled by HBO

One of HBO's buzziest and most acclaimed new series from the past year won't see a second season. Lovecraft Country, the horror drama based on the book of the same name by Matt Ruff, has been canceled after a single season. Its first and only season ran from August to October 2020, and there was little news on the show's future after that point. It was a solid ratings performer for HBO, averaging 0.19 in the 18-49 demo and ending on a series high. HBO was looking at ways to bring the show back, and creator Misha Green was working on potential stories for additional seasons. However, creatives and the network mutually decided to instead keep the series as a one-and-done affair. Jurnee Smollett, Jonathan Majors, Aunjanue Ellis, Michael K. Williams, Wunmi Mosaku, Abbey Lee, Jamie Chung and Courtney B. Vance starred in the series, which is seen as a major contender at the upcoming 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.
