INT. APARTMENT - DAY
Andrew and Sarah are cuddled on the couch. They are watching Grey’s Anatomy.
ANDREW
You’re right, this show is good.
SARAH
Told you.
Andrew and Sarah kiss.
Edison enters the apartment.
ANDREW
How was your date with Paige?
EDISON
Fantastic. I didn’t think about Brittaney once.
SARAH
That’s...a weird way to put it...but a good start!
EDISON
Yeah, it is. We already have a time set for a second date and you know what that means.
ANDREW
What?
EDISON
We’re gonna do it!
SARAH
Oh boy.
ANDREW
Well, I’m glad you found someone.
EDISON
Me too.
Megan enters the apartment.
MEGAN
Finally, it’s spring break. Please tell me we’re gonna do something fun.
ANDREW
We could get ahead in our classes.
MEGAN
(To Sarah)
Is this really the guy you want to be with?
EDISON
I have an idea.
SARAH
If it’s anything like the machine washable condom, I’m not sure I want to hear it.
EDISON
I think we should throw a pool party.
ANDREW
Have you seen our apartment pool? The water in Flint, Michigan is cleaner.
EDISON
Actually, Paige told me that she and some other tenants complained enough until the apartment did something about it. It's clean now.
MEGAN
So are we doing this?
SARAH
I’m in. Andrew?
ANDREW
Yeah, sounds fun.
EDISON
Alrighty. I’m gonna go invite Paige.
Edison leaves the apartment.
EXT. APARTMENT HALLWAY - DAY
Edison knocks on Paige’s door. Paige answers.
PAIGE
Is our second date already happening?
EDISON
No. I actually came to invite you to a pool party that my friends and I are throwing tomorrow.
PAIGE
You couldn’t have just texted me?
EDISON
Oh right, sorry forgot about that option.
PAIGE
This isn’t another “Dat Party Tho” is it?
EDISON
No, it’s just a pool party.
PAIGE
Ok then, I’ll be there.
EDISON
Great. So, what’re doing now?
PAIGE
Edison. We just had our first date and I have to do homework.
EDISON
It’s spring break.
PAIGE
That doesn't mean I can’t get ahead.
EDISON
I think you’ll like my friend Andrew.
EXT. APARTMENT POOL - NIGHT
The pool is filled/surrounded by partygoers. Everyone is wearing a swimsuit. The group watches the party.
EDISON
This is great. Exactly what spring break should be: Wet and fun.
ANDREW
Do you ever listen to yourself talk?
Paige arrives at the party.
EDISON
Hey! You made it!
PAIGE
Well, I do live a few feet away.
EDISON
Right. Do you want anything to drink or eat?
PAIGE
I’ll have a soda.
EDISON
Great, I’ll go get it. My friends are over there.
Edison leaves and Paige goes over to the group.
PAIGE
So you guys are Edison’s friends.
ANDREW
Wow, I’ve never heard that out loud before. I think I need another drink.
Andrew leaves.
PAIGE
Can I ask y’all something?
SARAH
Sure.
PAIGE
How serious were Edison and his ex?
SARAH
Brittaney?
PAIGE
Yeah.
SARAH
Pretty serious.
MEGAN
Oh yeah. He could not get over her for months.
PAIGE
Oh.
SARAH
Yeah from what Andrew told me, he practically talked non-stop about her.
MEGAN
Ha! Sarah remember the time he tried finding her on Google Earth.
Sarah and Megan laugh together.
PAIGE
Ummmmm ok. I'm- uhhh...gonna go check on Edison.
Paige leaves.
Edison is at the drink station.
EDISON
Diet or zero sugar?
Andrew appears next to him.
ANDREW
So, good first date. Now she’s at your party. Looks like you two are starting to become serious.
EDISON
We’ve only had one date and this doesn’t count as one.
ANDREW
Still, it’s the first time since Brittaney that you’ve been truly happy.
EDISON
I know. It’s a good feeling. Is this what it feels like when you’re on cocaine.
ANDREW
I don’t think so.
EDISON
How would you know?
ANDREW
I accidentally took ecstasy at Halloween, Remember?
EDISON
Uh-huh. “Accidentally”.
ANDREW
Seriously man. I’m happy for you.
Paige walks up to Edison.
PAIGE
Hey, can we talk?
EDISON
Sure.
Edison and Paige move away from the party.
EDISON
What’s up?
PAIGE
I don’t think this is gonna work.
EDISON
What are you talking about?
PAIGE
Look, I don’t think that you’re really over your ex and I don’t want to be some rebound.
EDISON
What? You’re not a rebound, I’m over Brittaney.
PAIGE
Not according to your friends. I’m sorry Edison.
Paige leaves.
Edison returns to the party and walks up to the group.
EDISON
Sarah. Megan. What did you and Paige talk about?
SARAH
She asked us how serious you and Britt were.
MEGAN
And how it took forever for you to get over her.
EDISON
Are you kidding me?
ANDREW
What happened?
EDISON
I’m glad you asked. Paige broke up with me.
ANDREW
What?
EDISON
These two ladies thought it was a good idea to tell Paige about how it was hard for me to get over Brittaney.
MEGAN
She asked.
EDISON
That’s not an excuse.
SARAH
We’re sorry. We’ll talk to her.
EDISON
Oh no you won’t. You two have done enough damage. Andrew, I need your help to get Paige back.
ANDREW
What are you thinking?
Edison thinks.
EDISON
Bring Paige back to the party. I’ll do the rest.
Edison runs off.
A FEW MINUTES LATER
Andrew and Paige rejoin the party.
PAIGE
What was it you wanted to show me?
ANDREW
Uhhhhhhhhhh.
EDISON
Paige!
Edison is standing on a railing four stories up above the pool.
PAIGE
Oh my gosh!
ANDREW
Uh- I guess that’s what I’m supposed to show you.
SARAH
What’s he doing?
Megan looks at Edison and then at the pool.
MEGAN
Holy shit, he’s gonna jump.
SARAH
Andrew! Stop him!
ANDREW
Edison buddy. Whatcha doing?
EDISON
Paige, you're not some rebound! I like you! Like really like you! And to prove it to you, I’m gonna jump into the pool.
ANDREW
Edison, I’m not sure how that proves anything.
EDISON
Shut up Andrew!
Edison prepares to jump.
Edison jumps.
INT. EMERGENCY ROOM - NIGHT
Edison lays in a hospital bed. Andrew, Sarah, and Megan stand next to him. A DOCTOR holds up an X-Ray.
DOCTOR
You’ve broken your leg in three places. What were you thinking jumping off a balcony?
MEGAN
Who said he was thinking.
The doctor leaves.
ANDREW
I can’t believe you missed the pool by one foot.
EDISON
Andrew now is not the time for one of your puns.
SARAH
Edison, listen. You could have died jumping.
EDISON
What do you care? You ruined the closest thing I’ve had to a real relationship in months.
ANDREW
Actually dude, while you and I were in the EMS, these two talked to Paige.
EDISON
Really?
MEGAN
Yeah, we explained to her that we over-exaggerated.
ANDREW
Even though y’all didn’t in the first place.
Paige appears near the group.
SARAH
We’ll give you two a moment.
ANDREW
Break a leg man.
Sarah smacks Andrew in the arm as the group leaves the room.
PAIGE
How's the leg?
EDISON
It hurts.
PAIGE
Sarah and Megan explained it to me.
EDISON
You’re not some rebound. I meant what I said, I like you.
PAIGE
I like you too.
EDISON
So can we try a second date one more time?
PAIGE
Sure. Just no more jumping off roofs.
EDISON
I can agree to that.
Edison and Paige kiss.
