Single Parents: It's no secret that trying to come up with a prediction for this show has been a real albatross around my neck. It was one of the shows I incorrectly predicted last year, and it's one of the few shows this season that I've moved in both positive and negative directions. This week, it's moving in the right direction. This remains one of the biggest bubble shows of the season for me, but I don't feel comfortable predicting a cancellation for it anymore. Its retention from Modern Family truly isn't that awful. It also seems to have an audience independent of Modern Family, as it doesn't rise or fall that much. Even as Modern fluctuates between 0.7 and 0.97, ratings for Single Parents have only deviated a tenth (between 0.53 and 0.63) for the past ten episodes, aside from an airing on the same night as the massive Jeopardy tournament. It's one of the steadier shows on ABC, even on nights where Modern Family is airing a repeat. That ABC knows what to expect from the show leads me to believe they're more likely to renew it than any of their other low-rated comedies. I'm upgrading Single Parents to LEANS RENEWAL. It could still get canceled, but I think it had a strong case for returning.
