Finals Update: All programs held their preliminary ratings.
Legend:
(P) = premiere
(R) = repeat
(F) = finale
As the broadcast television networks continue to benefit from more people staying inside, NBC's 'This Is Us' (1.7) was the clear winner of the night. The fourth season finale of the Emmy-nominated drama posted its second-highest rating of the season and was only two-tenths below its finale rating for the previous year (1.9). The peacock network wisely used that huge rating to boost the series premiere of new drama 'Council of Dads' (0.7). There was little interest in the newbie as it lost a full point from its lead-in. Earlier in the night, NBC had a phenomenal performance from 'Ellen's Game of Games' (1.4). It rose a tenth from an already robust result to a new season high.
CBS also enjoyed a massive rise in Nielsen ratings after being in repeat mode last week. 'NCIS' (1.3) and 'FBI' (1.1) were each up by three-tenths from their last episodes. 'FBI: Most Wanted' took a more modest two-tenth rise (1.0). 'NCIS' matched its previous season high while the 'FBI' duo were both at new highs.
The other three networks didn't experience the same level of success. ABC's 'The Conners' (1.1) actually inched down from last week's result. Luckily (or unluckily) for the alphabet network, comedy lead-outs 'Bless this Mess' (0.7), 'Mixed-ish' (0.6), and 'Black-ish' (0.6) all matched last week's meager showings. Drama 'For Life' (0.6) also held steady at 10, posting its fifth-straight 0.6.
Fox's drama duo of 'The Resident' (0.8) and fading juggernaut 'Empire' (0.7) both held onto last week's numbers.
The CW stayed out of the mix with repeats of 'The Flash' and 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.1/0.1).
