MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews Canceled

MSNBC's longest-running host is leaving the air for good. Chris Matthews announced today, at the start of his broadcast, that his long-running series Hardball has come to end The show was an average player for MSNBC in the ratings, frequently drawing 0.1s like most of the network's programs. The show debuted on MSNBC in 1999, just three years after MSNBC itself launched. The series originally aired on the defunct America's Talking network, before moving to CNBC and lastly MSNBC, its home for over twenty years. Matthews drew controversy in recent weeks for remarks about Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders that were seen as inappropriate and in particular the numerous allegations of inappropriate workplace behavior, which seems to have played heavily in this decision.
