So I got a call from Mary.
WYATT
Who’s Mary? And whatever happened to your job?
JOSH
That’s besides the point. Mary is my sister-in-law. So Aunt Mary to you I guess. Either pronunciation works. Or Auntie Mary.
BRIAN
Are you going to tell us what that was about, Josh?
FRAN
Oh please do tell us!
ANDREW
Please don’t.
JOSH
Mary and David are in Poland.
BRIAN
Now I don’t miss Poland so much!
WYATT
You guys went to Poland?
BRIAN
Yeah. Let me tell you a story of that one time we went to—actually two times, we
FRAN
That’s enough Brian, I have no clue where you’re going with this.
BRIAN
The kid needs to know! We were going for a walk in the park when we saw a rainbow.
ANDREW
They have those here you know.
FRAN
That’s what I said!
BRIAN
I still miss the days when we were in Poland, Fran.
ANDREW
Me too.
JOSH
Do you guys want to know what I found out or not?
ANDREW
I already said no!
FRAN
YES!
BRIAN
I don’t care.
WYATT
Should I be in the room for this or is it an adult conversation?
JOSH
Both.
BRIAN
Oh I almost forgot! There was that time when Fran and I were in Poland and we saw three birds sitting next to one another in a tree!
FRAN
Me too! Those birds sounded so nice together.
BRIAN
Yeah. Can’t remember if it was an oak tree or maple tree though.
ANDREW
It was probably neither, then.
WYATT
What else could it be?
ANDREW
My guess is evergreen.
JOSH
Mary and David are stuck in Poland. There, I said it. Not sure if any of you heard me but I said it.
FRAN
Oh no! That’s terrible! Why?
JOSH
A couple reasons. One of them is because of the travel ban. The other is because David lost his passport.
BRIAN
So he can’t leave Poland?
JOSH
I don’t know the specifics. But the kids are all alone now.
WYATT
They don’t even have a foster mom?
JOSH
Nope. Just by themselves in Ohio.
ANDREW
Idaho.
FRAN
Do they know they’re by themselves? I didn’t even know they were in Poland!
JOSH
They just got there.
BRIAN
Why were they trying to leave already then?
JOSH
I have no clue, I didn’t get into specifics. All I know if Mary said the kids are going to have to be by themselves, at least for now.
FRAN
Well, I guess they’re finally growing up.
BRIAN
And let me say what we’ve all been thinking: we’re all out of jobs due to this current situation going on in the country.
FRAN
We’re screwed, aren’t we?
WYATT
No you’re not.
JOSH
Wyatt’s right. Not the best of times for us, but I bet we’ll all make it through this.
