CW Renew/Cancel Preseason Predictions

Hello, peeps! I'm Jessica, and this fall, I will be doing Renew/Cancel predictions for The CW. Last season, the network renewed their entire Monday-Thursday lineup, throwing Hart of Dixie to the wolves. Let's get on to my preseason predictions for the fall 2015 season.

Certain to be Canceled
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Likely to be Canceled
The Vampire Diaries

Toss Up
Reign

Likely to be Renewed
Jane the Virgin

Certain to be Renewed
Arrow
The Flash
iZombie
The Originals
Supernatural

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: First off, I would say, what a poor choice for a lead in. Also, three words: Dead. On. Arrival.

The Vampire Diaries: After Nina Dobrev's departure, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a sharp ratings decline. Also, one commenter has pointed out that it has no syndication deal. Another one commented that CW viewers are experiencing vampire fatigue. I don't see this lasting much longer.

Jane the Virgin: Although rather mediocre in the ratings, it has gotten critical acclaim. It is also closer to syndication, which means that it will need one more full season to reach 66 episodes, and also for the guarantee of the syndication gods. Given the situation with Tribune, the CW would like to have as many shows in syndication as possible.

iZombie: Higher rated than Jane the Virgin. It also has The Flash as a lead-in.

Reign: It will be in its third season. Guaranteed fourth season renewal for syndication purposes, regardless of ratings. SpoilerTV reported that the third season will have 18 episodes, instead of the 22 episodes originally ordered. And there was a shorter shooting schedule. Sounds to me that the episode order was cut. Let's take a road down memory lane. On CBS last season, CSI's episode order was cut from 22 to 18, and it was canceled in May. On Fox, Mulaney's order was cut to the actual 13 episodes. Granted, if the CW decides to cancel one scripted drama, it will likely be Reign, combined with the woeful ratings it has gotten last season. It's a toss-up between cancelation and renewal, since the episode cut was made before the premiere.

The Originals: It will be in its third season. Guaranteed fourth season renewal for syndication purposes, regardless of ratings.

Arrow: Enough said. The CW has bigger fish to fry.

The Flash: Highest rated series on the CW. I don't see this going anywhere.

Supernatural: Enough said. Like I said, the network has bigger fish to fry.
