Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 3 Premiere Review

Hi, I'm Hunter and I will be reviewing Brooklyn Nine-Nine this season. After a shocking cliffhanger ending to the comedy's second season, and the announcement that Bill Hader would be in the first few episodes of the new season, I was very excited for season three. Did the premiere live up to my expectations? Read on to find out.

Also, spoilers are ahead!

S3E1 "New Captain"

Bill Hader's new captain character was introduced at the very beginning of the episode, and he was hilarious, but then he had a heart attack. Jake and Amy also had to talk about their kiss and what it meant. They decided not to tell anyone about them, to not put a label on it, and to not have sex too early on. Jake of course wasn't excited about that last one. Holt and Gina got introduced to their new job, and of course it was hilarious because Holt is fantastic. The PR Department is naming the new mascot for the NYPD, and apparently that has taken months. Jake and Amy went on a date and it was awkward, so they got drunk and ended up breaking the third rule.

The new captain is obsessed with efficiency, so when everyone was gathered around Jake's desk he called Jake into his office and Jake convinced him that he was also obsessed with efficiency. Meanwhile, Holt battled with Wunch at his new job and it was hilarious. The new captain ended up walking in on Jake and Amy making out and during his yelling at them he had another heart attack.

The others ended up finding out that Jake and Amy are in a relationship, and in doing so Jake and Amy broke their other two rules. Also, this heart attack was for real and the captain died. Jake and Amy decided that their relationship would not work out, and they broke up. But they both realized that they wanted too much to be together. Holt ended up having to wear the pigeon costume, and he considered quitting, but Gina convinced him otherwise. This episode threw in some seriousness near the end, but it was done very well. Then, the next new captain was introduced, the vulture! I have a feeling that he won't make it to the end of the second episode though, and that they will go through four or five new captains, each lasting an episode, before Holt ends up returning.

I am very glad to have this show back, it is funny in many ways, and this episode was a great example of that. It was a great premiere.
