Sitcom Scorecard 2019-20, January 19: Football Gives Bob’s Burgers a Boost as ABC Comedies Sink

Welcome to another week of the Sitcom Scorecard. Lots of changes have happened in the ratings this past week. Just a disclaimer: the Sitcom and Drama Scorecards are completely separate from regular Renew/Cancel columns. You'll find those on the Renew/Cancel tab. And now, here is this week in a nutshell.

A football boosted Bob's Burgers with a 1.9 was enough to shoot last week's tenth place comedy into fifth place, causing Last Man Standing to fall in the rankings to 8th place from fifth place last week. Despite the drop, Last Man Standing remained steady in the Nielsen ratings. What a difference football can make. When Outmatched premieres next week, this table may look somewhat different. But nonetheless, except for The Moodys, FOX is having a great year on the comedy front, football boost notwithstanding.

On ABC, comedies fell in the Nielsens. When Jeopardy fell below a 2.0, mixed-ish and black-ish fell in the rankings. black-ish returned to its series low of a 0.5. Things may get worse when The Connors and Bless this Mess return. On Wednesday, The Goldbergs set a new series low. Schooled, Modern Family, and Single Parents returned to late fall numbers. And American Housewife returned lower than its repeat. At least Fresh off the Boat didn't return to its series low.

On NBC, Perfect Harmony set a new series low. Why is this still seen on TV? Imagine it getting close to Sunnyside in the rankings. At this point, I'm surprised NBC hasn't pulled an Almost Family yet on the show by banishing it to Saturdays. The rest of the comedies either tied series lows or set new series lows. Superstore dropped to a 0.6 after its return.

CBS remained as steady as ever, although The Unicorn dropped in the rankings with its 0.6 rating this week. The tie has been broken between it and Bob Hearts Abishola, which noticeably looks better than the other newbie comedies with its sturdy retention from The Neighborhood.
