NBC has handed out an unsurprising renewal to New Amsterdam, though the length it's for is pretty surprising. The medical drama has received a three-season pickup, extending the show's run to season five. Though surprising, this move isn't unprecedented. The network gave a renewal of the same length to its flagship drama This Is Us in May 2019, though that show's huge renewal was less unexpected due to unconfirmed rumors that those three seasons would take it to the end of its run. New Amsterdam is a solid if unspectacular performer for NBC, averaging a 0.81 thus far this season. It returns from its winter hiatus on Tuesday. Ryan Eggold, Anupam Kher, Janet Montgomery, Tyler Labine and Freema Agyeman star in the series.
