The Goldbergs: It's one of the most disappointing veteran shows ratings-wise this season, with a current year-to-year decline of 28% and continued slippage throughout the season so far. The Goldbergs was once a big hit for ABC, but it's now becoming just an average player that's hitting numbers below the league average. Its 0.7 last week against minimal competition was its worst datapoint yet and puts into question how much longer this sitcom can run for. Currently seven seasons into its run, the show remains ABC's #3 comedy and #4 scripted show overall, which means it's still a CERTAIN RENEWAL. Despite underperforming its ad rates, ABC isn't in a position to let the show go right now, especially with the rest of the Wednesday lineup (aside from the ending Modern Family) pulling even worse numbers. It may find itself nearing the end of its run soon, but even with its worrying trends, it'll be back next year.

Emergence: Before last week, I was actually considering giving an upgrade to Emergence, as it and Stumptown had begun to rate similarly. Then it dropped to 0.3. It's one of the six shows lucky enough to hit that number this season on the Big Four networks, and the only one on ABC. Needless to say, it's going to remain a CERTAIN CANCELLATION for the time being.
