Sitcom Scorecard 2019-20, Week 17: Jeopardy Lifts Some ABC Comedies, NBC Takes a Tumble

Welcome to the Sitcom Scorecard, and it's week 17! Not much has changed since the last scorecard. Here's a disclaimer: the Sitcom and Drama Scorecards are completely different from Renew/Cancel predictions. If you want to know the current prediction for each show, check the Renew/Cancel columns in the Renew/Cancel tab. Here are this week's standings.

On ABC this week, ABC comedies Modern Family, black-ish, mixed-ish, and Single Parents got a healthy boost from the Jeopardy: Greatest of All Time primetime tournament special, handling its own nicely above a 2.0 in the key adults 18-49 demographic. A 1.5 for Modern Family was enough to kick Last Man Standing into fifth place. Here's the thing: Last Man Standing got a 0.8 for both episodes this week. But that's near the FOX scripted median and it is still performing at the top of the pack.

But the Jeopardy gains for ABC were a loss to other comedies, mainly NBC. The fact that Perfect Harmony now ties recently canceled Fresh Off the Boat is a testament that perhaps Perfect Harmony should air a potential second season on Hulu or Peacock. But you definitely won't see the show on NBC next season.

Many other comedies lost places in the scorecard despite being steady in the ratings (cough, cough, Carol's Second Act). That was due to the Jeopardy bump for the ABC comedies. Things may go back to normal next week. But you never know.

Speaking of The Moodys, we found out that the event series was intended to have more seasons. However, the ratings are terrible. I'm actually more harsh on this Scorecard with this show than I am on the latest FOX Renew/Cancel. The Moodys is pretty much a show that belongs on FX or even FXX. Or Hulu. Because it is definitely off brand for FOX.

And this concludes our Sitcom Scorecard. Sound off in the comments below!
