FADE IN:
EXT. MANHATTAN SKYLINE - DAY
An urban area is situated in Staten Island in the middle of New York City.
Cars are bustling through the area during rush hour traffic.
EXT. NETWORK HEADQUARTERS - DAY
Cars are parked one by one and people are walking in and out of the building. Headquarters is situated in the heart of Manhattan.
INT. BUSINESS HALLWAY - DAY
We are at network headquarters.
When we last left the gang, Jesse and Kasey have long broken up.
Jesse decided to see a therapist.
Holly and Matt are taking things one day at a time after the fallout argument between Kasey and Charlie.
And Ash and Leah are hanging in there after the miscarriage.
Long story short, things are awkward at the office.
Back to the episode, we see Jesse walk into his office.
INT. JESSE’S OFFICE - DAY
Minutes later, Jesse is settled at his desk. Surprisingly, the desk is well organized.
JESSE
Back to work. Let’s get these pilot reports done.
Jesse then turns on his computer. Minutes later, he begins browsing the files and opening his email account.
Once he finds the reports, he electronically sends them to Ash and Charlie.
Jesse breathes out a sigh of relief.
The door opens to reveal Ash, standing there with a bright smile.
Ash nudges in closer to Jesse’s desk and sits down.
ASH
Well, that is record timing. Good work.
JESSE
Thanks. Technically these reports were completed a week ago. I just had to look over them for changes and send them your way.
ASH
From what I heard, there were some changes to the filming schedule as you have sent in.
JESSE
Glad to be of service.
Ash then gets up from the seat.
Jesse and Ash then proceed to shake hands.
INT. KASEY’S OFFICE - DAY
Kasey paces back and forth in her office.
The door is open. It has been cracked open for at least an hour.
She is on the phone.
KASEY
(on phone)
Look, Jill. I would love for you to watch Ezra sometime. Wait? What do you mean you have work?
Kasey throws a puzzling look.
She then heads to her seat at her desk.
KASEY
(on phone)
You got promoted to co-showrunner on your show. I see. But it will be fun. You and Ezra will have a lot of fun, and besides, you are the fun aunt.
She looks overhead at the hallway.
Her jaw drops as she notices Jesse confidently stroll past her door while he converses with Ash.
INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY
SUPER: FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER
With the coffee machine sputtering on, Leah, Jesse, Charlie, and Ash gather together.
They laugh and carry on as Matt enters the room.
MATT
Did something happen? What’s with all the commotion.
CHARLIE
It’s New Year’s, Matt. We’re talking about resolutions.
MATT
Oh. Nice to know I didn’t miss out on anything.
ASH
Jesse got the pilot reports sent in record time today.
CHARLIE
I saw that. Way to go, Meadows!
Charlie high fives Jesse. Jesse nods with a smile.
Kasey enters the conference room last. She sits away from the gang.
Leah notices that Kasey is more avoidant than usual.
LEAH
Why the long face?
No response.
JESSE
Now that you guys have all the reports, maybe it’s time to get some test groups.
ASH
That’s actually not for another month but if we went ahead with it, we’ll be ahead of schedule.
CHARLIE
Well, you never know what could go wrong. Better to be prepared.
They all sit down at the table.
Kasey then looks up.
KASEY
Ahead of schedule huh?
CHARLIE
Yes, Miss Hall. Meadows sent the reports in record time, ahead of schedule.
KASEY
Well, that’s surprising. Jesse usually procrastinates on important matters.
JESSE
When inspired, you make a few improvements. I’m focused on work this year more than anything else. Anything else is outside of network time.
Kasey rolls her eyes.
KASEY
Good to know.
Kasey then turns her attention away from the gang.
On the next episode of Network, the newest show on the network premieres. What happens next?
