Cable Renew/Cancel - Freeform, TNT & Syfy: Motherland: Fort Salem Is a Close Call, but Odds Are In Its Favor

It's been over a year since The TV Ratings Guide has done a renew/cancel column for Freeform, TNT and Syfy. With many shows to talk about now, it feels like a good time to bring this column back. Keep reading for predictions on Motherland: Fort Salem, Chasing the Cure, Siren, Vagrant Queen, The Bold Type and more!

Motherland: Fort Salem: The newest Freeform drama isn't a very strong ratings performer, with just a 0.1 average, but that's still enough to make it a stronger ratings performer than most other Freeform shows. Only Grownish and Siren rate higher (Party of Five did as well, though that was canceled for falling lower in the ratings than Motherland ever did by the end of its run). Freeform has other shows that seem more likely to get the ax before Motherland, especially considering that Motherland seems to have developed a strong fanbase that may suggest a decent streaming following. It's not safe, very few shows with such low ratings are, but I'd bet on a renewal. It lands in LEANS RENEWAL to start off.

Siren: One of the "stronger" shows on Freeform, Siren is now in its third season. It's down 25% thus far, but I think its performance will be enough for a fourth. I doubt Freeform will cancel a steady, solid (by their standards) veteran show without any apparent reason. It's a LIKELY RENEWAL.

Everything's Gonna Be Okay: This new comedy is one of the lowest-rated on Freeform, going as low as 0.03 and averaging only 0.06. Freeform has generally been generous with renewals for newbies, since the shows are so close ratings-wise to begin with, but Freeform doesn't even have distribution rights with this one and that is probably what got Party of Five canceled. I don't see much upside here. It's a LIKELY CANCELLATION.

Chasing the Cure: The Ann Curry-hosted medical reality series was only a so-so performer for TNT (and TBS) to begin with, but things don't look for it now. The COVID-19 crisis makes it pretty unlikely that this show could even film this summer, considering that it centers on those suffering from various ailments that may be further at risk for the virus. I can't see TNT and TBS caring enough about a show with such modest ratings that they'll bring it back two years aftrer its finale ais, so it feels likely that the show will just fade away and not be mentioned again. It LEANS CANCELLATION.

Syfy:

Vagrant Queen: The newest Syfy series actually got off to a OK start, but it got uglier and uglier, moving from Fridays to an undesirable 11 PM slot on Thursdays. Its low is 0.03, and it averages only 0.05. That, coupled with the move of nights that occurred just weeks into its run, leads me to believe that Syfy doesn't plan to bring this one back. They've canceled shows recently with much stronger ratings. It's a LIKELY CANCELLATION.
