"The Battle of Miami"

EXT. MIAMI - DAY
The soldiers of the Genesis Army fire their artillery and guns at the wall and citizens of Miami. The citizens of Miami return fire. Hendricks yells out commands. Ava and her doctors take care of the wounded. Portions of the wall are destroyed but the wall has not been penetrated.
A tank fires again. It hits a group of citizens and blows them to pieces.
Hendricks, Dion, and RJ take cover.
DION
I think this is going pretty well.
RJ
They’re going to break through the wall soon.
HENDRICKS
Are Freddy and his men at the shelter?
RJ
Yeah.
HENDRICKS
At least that place is protected. When they break through, we're going to have to give it all we got.
DION
Aren’t we already doing that.
The three men get back up and return fire.
The Genesis Army continues its barrage against Miami. The army continues to advance toward the city’s wall. They stop. They cease fire. Hendricks raises his hands as the citizens stop their firing.
DION
What’s happening?
HENDRICKS
They’re up to something.
A large truck drives among the army and then stops. On top of the truck is a giant missile.
DION
Is that what I think it is?
HENDRICKS
Yeah.
Hendricks’ radio goes off.
GERALD
(Radio)
Mr. Hendricks, let’s end this peacefully. Surrender and I promise you and your people will not be hurt.
HENDRICKS
I want to speak to Frank.
GERALD
(Radio)
Frank isn't here.
HENDRICKS
What did you do to him?
GERALD
(Radio)
Surrender or prepare to be sieged.
HENDRICKS
Go fuck yourself.
Hendricks turns off his radio. The missile truck launches the missile. The missile hits a section of wall and obliterates the section. Many citizens die. Debris flies everywhere. Hendricks, RJ, and Dion are knocked down. Hendricks gets up.
HENDRICKS
RJ! Gather as many people as you can and take them to the exposed area!
Hendricks and the remaining soldiers rush to the blown portion of the wall. The soldiers of the Genesis Army advance towards the destroyed section.
Hendricks and the remaining citizens gather at the destroyed section. The Genesis soldiers advance faster. Hendricks pulls out a machete along with his pistol. Dion pulls out an axe and sawed-off double barrel shotgun. RJ is armed with an assault rifle. Romero and his men join them. They are armed with assault rifles. The Genesis soldiers enter the city and charge. Hendricks and the citizens charge toward them.
The two armies collide and a bloodbath ensues. The Genesis soldiers shoot at the citizens. The citizens swing their blades and their other melee weapons, catching some of the soldiers off guard. Neither side shows any mercy. The fight is bloody.
Hendricks decapitates a soldier. Dion hits a soldier in the head with his ax. RJ continues firing rounds at the soldiers.
Ava tends to the wounded. Four Genesis soldiers approach near her. She pulls out a pistol and shoots all four. Another soldier tackles her. She grabs a scalpel and stabs the soldier in the eye. She picks up her gun and shoots the soldier dead.
The battle rages on. Each side’s soldiers are covered in each other's blood. The Genesis Army is winning. All is lost for the citizens. A Genesis soldier knocks Hendricks down. The soldier points their gun at Hendricks. Before they can shoot, the sound of motorcycles is heard. Violet and her Riders race into the city on their bikes. Hendricks stabs the soldier while they're distracted. Hendricks gets up. Violet pulls up next to Hendricks.
HENDRICKS
What changed your mind?
VIOLET
Like Frank said, we're all humans. We need to help each other.
Hendricks and Violet smile at each other. Violet zooms off to fight. Hendricks continues to fight.
Dion and RJ are engaged in combat with a few soldiers. Dion swings his ax and hits a soldier. RJ is now armed with nothing but a knife. He slashes a soldier's throat.
DION
How many you got?
RJ
We're keeping count?
Dion and RJ smile at each other.
There is a gunshot, it hits RJ in the shoulder. Another gunshot, it hits RJ in the stomach.
RJ falls to the ground. Dion throws his ax at the soldier that shot RJ. The ax hits the soldier in the chest. Dion kneels down next to RJ.
DION
Fuck. Fuck. No no no. RJ. RJ!
RJ
It hurts Dion. It really hurts.
DION
Shhhh shhhh it's gonna be ok. Ava’s gonna fix you right up. Medic!
RJ coughs up blood.
RJ
That's not good.
DION
You're gonna be fine. Just fine. You and I still have to do that double date. Remember?
RJ
Oh yeah. I forgot about that.
DION
Yeah. We're gonna go to a nice place. Great food. And then after, you and I are gonna get laid and have the best sex of our lives.
Dion and RJ chuckle. RJ sputters up blood.
DION
It’s gonna happen, just stay with me. Medic!
RJ
I don't wanna die Dion.
DION
You're not gonna die. I need a medic!
RJ takes one last breath and dies. His eyes are still open.
A medic runs over to the two men.
DION
Gunshot wounds. Make sure Ava sees him.
MEDIC
He's dead.
DION
No, he's not. Take him.
MEDIC
I can’t, he’s dead. Look.
Dion looks at RJ’s lifeless eyes.
DION
No. No. No RJ why? Why?
The medic leaves to tend to other wounded.
The citizens continue to fight. They are winning. They are getting the upper hand over the Genesis Army.
INT. COMPOUND QUARTERS - DAY
Frank sits on a bed. A door is opened by a guard and Gerald enters.
GERALD
Why? Why would you do that? You could be the leader of the new world.
FRANK
I’d rather die in this world than lead yours.
Gerald paces the room.
GERALD
Do you have any regrets Frank?
FRANK
No, not really. I regret not killing you when I had the chance.
GERALD
I don't have any regrets. I thought I would. After I ordered the release of the virus. I thought it would beat me up... that I wouldn't be able to handle it. But then, I didn't. I felt nothing. Just the satisfaction, just the relief that I’d done something right. Something that... something that helped the world. I'm creating a better world. A good world. Why can't you see that?
EXT. MIAMI - DAY
The Genesis Army is defeated. The army of 10,000 is now nothing but dead bodies.
The citizens walk among the dead. Ava tends to the wounded. Dion is still holding RJ’s body. Hendricks and Romero stand next to each other. Violet joins them.
ROMERO
We did it. We actually did it.
HENDRICKS
We survived, but it's not a victory.
INT. COMPOUND QUARTERS - DAY
Frank and Gerald sit in silence. A soldier enters and whispers in Gerald’s ear. A look of disbelief flashes across his face and then disappears.
GERALD
Tell them to activate it.
The soldier leaves.
GERALD
Your friends defeated my army.
Frank smiles.
GERALD
Don't smile just yet Frank. The battle is not yet over.
FRANK
Are you sending another army?
GERALD
In a way. You see Frank, each of the soldiers were implanted with a capsule that when activated, will release a mutated version of the virus into that soldier and bring them back. Only this time, they're dead.
Frank’s smile disappears.
GERALD
I just gave the order to activate it.
Gerald leaves.
EXT. MIAMI - DAY
The citizens walk among the bodies of the dead soldiers. One of the soldier's bodies begins twitching. Bloody foam comes out of his mouth. A medic notices and rushes over to him. As he checks for a pulse, the soldier who is now a zombie grabs him, bites into his neck and tears away the neck flesh. The medic screams in pain and then dies.
Hendricks and Romero hear the screams. Romero shoots the zombie in the head.
The thousands of dead soldier bodies begin twitching. They start getting up. The undead soldiers naw and clench their foamy blood dripping jaws. The citizens of Miami are surrounded by thousands of zombies.
HENDRICKS
Son of a bi-
