After a few days of painfully low ratings, the summer livened up a bit with the premiere of NBC's 'America's Got Talent' (1.4). This was just three-tenths below its year-ago return (1.7) and a good bit above most of its Wednesday originals from August and September 2019 (ranging from 1.1 to 1.5). The peacock network continued its dominance with the fourth season debut of 'World of Dance' (1.0). While it trailed its spring 2019 premiere (1.4), it was substantially ahead of its finale (0.8).
The CW continued performing a little better than usual with week 2 of 'Stargirl' (0.3) and 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.2) both holding onto last week's premieres.
ABC failed to garner much attention for the premiere of documentary series 'The Genetic Detective' (0.4) at 10. Although it wasn't too far off from how 'The Baker and the Beauty' began (0.5), this is not a promising start by any means. Earlier in the night, the alphabet network had repeats of recently-renewed 'The Conners' (0.5/0.4) and a special with seasoned broadcaster Diane Sawyer (0.4)
CBS had repeats of their usual Tuesday roster with 'NCIS' (0.5), 'FBI' (0.5), and 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.5). Those encores crushed Fox's repeat efforts, 'Hell's Kitchen' (0.3) & '24 Hours to Hell and Back (0.3).
Finals Update: America's Got Talent (+0.1) adjusted up. The repeat of FBI (-0.1) adjusted down.
