To Tell The Truth: Returning strong last week on ABC was To Tell The Truth, which launched its fifth season to a 0.7 at 10. That's one of the highest results in the Thursday at 10 slot this season, and is also higher than most of TTTT's results last season. It'll fall further no doubt, but it's a staple on ABC's schedule and is hosted by one of the network's favorite personalities, Anthony Anderson. If 0.4s were enough to get it renewed last year, it'll be enough this year, should it fall that far. It's a CERTAIN RENEWAL.
Holey Moley: A bit greener and a bit less safe is Holey Holey. It returned stronger than TTTT but with fewer episodes to its name, I'm not as sure about a renewal. It also will soon be leading the block, which may mean 0.4s may not cut it for this show while it'll be enough for TTTT. However, I still find it hard to imagine that ABC won't bring this one back for a third run. Its ratings last year were pretty weak and it still made the cut, so it certainly has plenty of room to fall. it seems like a likely candidate for upgrading in the future, but it's a LIKELY RENEWAL at the moment.
Labor of Love: Launching out of the already-flopping Celebrity Watch Party, Labor of Love had essentially nothing going for it. It didn't have that much of a promotional push or that long of one, its lead-in was extremely low, and its premise wasn't terribly appealing (not that it's impossible for a show to overcome that). With just a 0.2 launch, there's no way this is renewable for Fox. The true question is whether they pull it or not. It's a CERTAIN CANCELLATION.
Ultimate Tag: Launching just a night before Labor of Love, Ultimate Tag got off to a big start thanks to a massive Masked Singer lead-in. Its retention was nothing incredible, but certainly better than fall series Almost Family, and in-line with the Masked Singer aftershow. The true test is how it'll perform without Masked Singer, as its MasterChef repeats lead-in will likely be over a ratings point and a half away from Singer. Production on season two was set to begin in MArch but was delayed because of COVID-19, so at this point I won't treat it as renewed as Fox could theoretically back out if this bombs down to Labor of Love territory. At this point, LIKELY RENEWAL seems like a reasonable place to start for it.
What do you think of my initial Summer Renew/Cancel predictions? Let me know in the comments and vote in the poll(s) of the week!
