CHRIS, DREW, and JULIAN are sitting in their living room.
CHRIS
So we’re about to be the creators of a new TV show and we won’t make any money off it.
DREW
On the bright side, we won’t lose any money on it!
JULIAN
Chris, how’s Uncle Rich’s money looking?
CHRIS
What do you mean?
JULIAN
How much of it did we spend?
CHRIS
Just money on food.
JULIAN
How much exactly?
CHRIS
Was I supposed to keep track?
JULIAN
You said you would.
CHRIS
Right. Um, we’ve probably spent a hundred or so.
JULIAN
Or so?
CHRIS
Definitely no more than 500, I can tell you that much.
JULIAN
That’s somewhat promising. But we need to save this money too.
DREW
Did Uncle Rich tell us exactly how he wanted us to use the money?
CHRIS
He just gave it to us. Also do we all just call him Uncle Rich now? You do know his name is Nate, right?
JULIAN
Uncle Rich is more fun, we’ve been over this before.
DREW
Speaking of calling him Uncle Rich, why don’t we call Uncle Rich and ask him?
JULIAN
What if he says an answer we don’t like?
DREW
Better than misusing his money.
JULIAN
I guess. Let’s call him. You have his number, right Chris?
CHRIS
Yeah.
CHRIS calls NATE.
NATE
Hello?
CHRIS
Hey Uncle Rich—I mean, Nate—
NATE
Do you call me Uncle Rich?
CHRIS
Um...no.
NATE
It’s okay, Catherine calls me Rich too.
CHRIS
Yeah, so anyways I don’t think we went over how you want us to use this money.
NATE
Oh, right. Any way you want.
CHRIS
Can you give us some more specific guidelines?
NATE
It’s your money now, so it’s up to you. I know it’s tough that you’ll have to raise yourselves now.
CHRIS
Our parents are coming back, we just don’t know when.
NATE (after a long pause)
Hold on a second. Can I call you back?
CHRIS
Sure.
CHRIS hangs up and tells JULIAN and DREW how the call went.
JULIAN
That doesn’t sound good.
CHRIS
He probably just got sidetracked, he must be a busy person.
DREW
I don’t know, maybe he is but we can’t assume that.
CHRIS
Do you think he knows something about our parents that we don’t?
JULIAN
It’s possible.
DREW
I’m scared.
CHRIS hears his phone ring. It’s NATE.
NATE
Hey Chris, can you talk now?
CHRIS
Yeah.
NATE
Sorry about that. I just didn’t know you thought your parents were coming back.
CHRIS
What do you mean? Are they okay?
NATE
Yeah they’re fine, they just...aren’t coming back.
CHRIS
Huh?
NATE
They figured they had enough material.
CHRIS
Enough material for what?
NATE
To work on Catherine’s mom blog with her.
CHRIS
Aunt Catherine has a mom blog? My dad is working on a mom blog? That doesn’t sound right at all.
NATE
I’m just telling you what I’m seeing. Gotta go.
NATE hangs up. CHRIS tells JULIAN and DREW about the call.
DREW
So it’s just us now?
CHRIS
Seems like it.
JULIAN
Are we gonna be online? I don’t want to be online.
CHRIS
He gave me the name of the website...let’s look it up.
CHRIS finds the website on his phone. JULIAN looks.
JULIAN
Yep, I’m online. This needs to change.
CHRIS
Maybe this isn’t as bad as it sounds.
CHRIS looks through the website some more.
CHRIS
Oh. Yeah this is embarrassing.
DREW
We have to get in contact with them.
