ABC 2019-20 Renew/Cancel Wrap-Up: A Look at the Hits and Misses

ABC has finally decided the fates of all of their in-season scripted programs, with the last of their decisions being handed down on June 15. It's time for me to take a look at what I got right, what I got wrong, and look back at the ABC season that was. Below is my full chart of predictions for the season, with every show placed exactly where I last left them before their fates were decided.

ABC Renew/Cancel (Almost) Wrap-Up: Most Shows Decided, but What About The Baker and the Beauty and For Life?

Just two ABC shows are left standing today after ABC delivered news to most of their shows. Read on to see how this impacts The Baker and the Beauty and For Life, plus a wrap-up of my season of predictions as a whole.

Bless This Mess Canceled After Two Seasons

It's not a blessed day for fans of Bless This Mess. ABC has axed the Tuesday night sitcom after two seasons. The show received a massive timeslot upgrade, experiencing a small year-to-year rise in the ratings, and was seen as a key bubble show the entire season. The show's poor retention from The Conners, and its below-average 0.67 average for season two were likely the reasons for the cancellation. Lake Bell and Elizabeth Meriwether created the show together, and Bell also stars in the series alongside Dax Shepard, Lennon Parham, David Koechner, Ed Begley Jr. and Pam Grier. This was a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Tuesday TV Ratings 5/5/20: The Conners and Blackish Tie and Hit Lows for Finales, Game of Games Drops (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC said goodbye to their tepid Tuesday lineup in pretty disheartening fashion as sitcom juggernaut 'The Conners' (0.9) lost a tenth and matched its season two low-point. This was a far cry from its first season finale (1.5) but still a relatively normal data point for the Roseanne spinoff. It led into steady 'Bless This Mess' (0.6) and 'Mixed-ish' (0.5). The truly alarming number came with the sixth season finale of 'Blackish' (0.4) at 9:30. Not only did the veteran end its season on a new series low but it was also multiple tenths below its year-ago finale (0.7). That rotten result dragged 'For Life' (0.4) back down to its low at 10, though the freshman drama still has a chance to rise for its finale next week. 'FBI: Most Wanted' (0.6) lost a tenth on CBS, tying its season low. It had little lead-in support as 'NCIS' (0.6) and 'FBI' (0.5) remained in repeat mode. NBC's 'The Voice' (1.0) tied the number it posted yesterday but 'Ellen's Game of Games' (0.8) inched down a notch. The peacock network capped the night with another 'New Amsterdam' (0.4) encore. FOX had another repeat of 'The Masked Singer' (0.5) while The CW had steady helpings of 'The Flash' (0.4) and 'Legends of Tomorrow' (0.2).

Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary ratings.
