ABC Renew/Cancel: October 5 - A Million Little Things is a Toss-Up

Only one show has premiered on ABC in the last week, Grey's Anatomy spin-off Station 19, but we got some excitement in the second weeks of Single Parents and A Million Little Things. My thoughts on the two shows have somewhat changed now, though not by too much.

Format for predictions:
Show title (average 18-49 rating, season low-season high)

Certain to be Canceled

Likely to be Canceled

Toss-Up
A Million Little Things (1.0, 0.8-1.1)
Single Parents (1.2, 1.1-1.3)

Likely to be Renewed
How to Get Away with Murder (0.8, 0.8-0.8)
Modern Family (1.5, 1.4-1.6)

Certain to be Renewed
American Housewife (1.2, 1.1-1.2)
The Goldbergs (1.4, 1.3-1.4)
The Good Doctor (1.2, 1.1-1.3)
Grey's Anatomy (1.8, 1.6-1.9)
Station 19 (1.1)

A Million Little Things: A week 2 drop to 0.8 is disappointing for the Wednesday new show that I was more optimistic on last week. It's not out of the conversation yet though. Being relatively steady from here should help A Million Little Things achieve a renewal, as ABC drama standards are low. Now, if it drops to a 0.6 next week, then the real concern should begin. For now, it's solidly on the bubble.

Single Parents: While I felt that Single Parents was a real toss-up last week, I am getting more optimistic after a week two drop similar to that of its lead-in (Modern Family was at a 1.4 this week following last week's 1.6, Single Parents fell from a 1.3 to a 1.1). I'm not ready to move it out of toss-up territory yet, but for now, things are starting to look good for this show. Friday and Tuesday comedy ratings will also help us see a fuller picture once they arrive.

Station 19: While its retention was on the disappointing side in season 1, Station 19 returned for a second season with a 1.1 out of Grey's Anatomy's 1.6. Not bad for the spin-off. Considering ABC's drama problems, there's no way the network cancels a rating like that.

The Good Doctor: This show's season 2 ratings continue to be underwhelming compared to season 1. However, The Good Doctor is still ABC's #2 drama, and still growing from its lead-in. So, it's still not going anywhere.
