Welcome to First Week Peak, a column which discusses shows that are about to premiere on Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Paramount+, HBO Max, Peacock, Hulu, and/or Apple TV. Each discussion concludes with a prediction for the show's weekly peak performance on their respective streaming service's U.S. trending chart, including a reader poll. Trying (Season 5)Premieres: July 8 on Apple TV
Genre: Single-camera comedy
Apple TV subscribers haven't seen a new season of a straight-up comedy drop since Platonic's second season in August 2025. With 32 episodes already to its name, Trying will have an easier time climbing Apple's chart than a show with similar momentum but no library episodes. While it may have trouble against Apple's other currently-airing series, it could plausibly out-rank the shows at the bottom end of the Top 10 that have since concluded their seasons.
Just one day away from its return, Trying is nowhere to be found on Apple TV's Top 10 TV Shows list. This was not the case for Apple's most recent premiere, Silo, which re-entered the chart shortly before the release of its third season. Its current Buzz Score on Television Stats is a pitiful 0.9, putting it 35th among Apple TV shows and below the average show. It also has fairly mixed reviews for a renewed Apple TV show.
Premieres: July 9 on Netflix
Genre: Western drama
Little House on the Prairie already sports a 5.1 Buzz Score, the 10th-highest on Netflix before it has even premiered. It's based off a well-known book series of the same name, which also previously spawned the 1970s/80s drama that has remained popular to this day. Netflix will likely be prioritizing this launch, as the CBS Studios-produced series has already been renewed for a second season.
Little House on the Prairie viewers are used to doing so on Prime Video and Peacock, not Netflix. In fact, the original series is actually leaving Prime Video next week, which could upset some viewers and cause fingers to be pointed at Netflix. Little House on the Prairie also faces steep competition on Netflix, particularly from Harlan Coben's I Will Find You and the new true crime documentary Worst Neighbor Ever.
Premieres: July 9 on Peacock
Genre: Drama miniseries
The Five-Star Weekend is Peacock's first scripted launch in over two months, when drama M.I.A. had a solid run atop Peacock's trending chart. While Peacock in general is not kind to scripted originals, that hasn't stopped shows from doing temporarily well upon their releases.
Peacock is dominated by Love Island USA at the moment, making a #1 debut seem very unlikely. In fact, Peacock is largely dominated by unscripted fare. The Five-Star Weekend is a drama on a streaming service with zero veteran dramas, pending a potential MIA second season renewal.
Premieres: July 12 on Peacock
Genre: Unscripted
Married at First Sight was a strong performer on Peacock when its 19th season (its first as a Peacock original) aired in fall 2025. It consistently hovered around the #2-#4 range throughout its run, and was a mainstay on the chart.
Throughout its 19th season, Married at First Sight always found at least one show to cause it to miss out on the top spot. This season will likely be no different given the return of Love Island USA.
