Sunday TV Ratings 2/14/21: American Idol Returns Strong, The Equalizer Has Solid Start, The Rookie Hits Season High (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Fresh off its Super Bowl-charged debut, Queen Latifah drama 'The Equalizer' (0.9) held on pretty nicely for its timeslot premiere. Building from a sinking '60 Minutes' (0.7), the CBS drama beat out all other scripted offerings by a pretty decent margin. 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.7) was the direct lead-out to 'Equalizer' and inched up to its highest rating since November. 'NCIS: New Orleans' (0.5) held steady in the 10pm hour. On ABC, the season premiere of 'American Idol' (1.1) was four-tenths below last year's (1.5) but still topped the evening. Lead-in 'AFV' (0.8) and lead-out 'The Rookie' (0.6) each picked up two-tenths in the process. NBC went with repeats of 'Weakest Link' (0.3), 'The Wall' (0.3), and an anemic country music special (0.3). The Fox network had no choice but to cancel their previously-scheduled lineup as 'NASCAR' (0.6/0.8) seeped into the 8-10 arena. For what its worth, the game performed better than what the cartoons will likely do next week. 'Batwoman' (0.1) lost a tenth on the CW but 'Charmed' (0.1) clung to what it posted two weeks ago.

Finals Update: 'American Idol' (+0.1), '60 Minutes' (+0.1), 'NCIS: New Orleans' (+0.1), 'NASCAR Daytona 500' (+0.1), 'NASCAR Rain Delay' (+0.2), and the repeat of 'Weakest Link' (+0.1) adjusted up.
