Wednesday TV Ratings 5/19/21: The Conners and The Goldbergs Finales Hold Steady at Lows, Chicago Med and Chicago Fire Slip, SEAL Team and SWAT Rise (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC's comedies couldn't make any gains on finale night, with the season closers of 'The Goldbergs' (0.5), 'Home Economics' (0.4), and 'The Conners' (0.5) steady with their last episodes. 'Call Your Mother' (0.3) was also flat for its series finale at 9:30. 10pm drama 'A Million Little Things' held even at a 0.3 rating and will continue airing original episodes through June. Over on Fox, 'The Masked Singer' (1.1) and 'Game of Talents' (0.6) each picked up a tenth. 'Chicago Med' (0.8) and 'Chicago Fire' (0.8) suffered one-tenth declines on NBC, but 'Chicago PD' (0.8) matched its previous outing at 10. CBS's 'Kids Say the Darndest Things' reboot (0.3) was frozen at its low-point as Paramount+-bound 'SEAL Team' (0.5) and 'SWAT' (0.4) rose by a tenth. Leading out of an encore of 'Kung Fu' (0.1), 'Nancy Drew' (0.0) fell to an embarrassing level on the CW.

Finals Update: 'The Masked Singer' (1.2, +0.1), 'The Goldbergs' (0.6, +0.1), 'The Conners' (0.6, +0.1), 'Call Your Mother' (0.4, +0.1), and 'Nancy Drew' (0.1, +0.1) adjusted up.

Call Your Mother Canceled by ABC

ABC isn't returning Kyra Sedgwick's calls. They have canceled freshman comedy Call Your Mother after a single season. The show is the second lowest-rated on ABC with just a 0.38 average, and never seemed to have much of a chance after a weak 0.53 premiere. The series came from New Adventures of Old Christine creator Kari Lizer, and featured Joey Bragg, Rachel Sennott, Austin Crute, Emma Caymares and Patrick Brammall in leading roles alongside the aforementioned Sedgwick. The show will end its run on May 19 after a 13-episode run. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.

Wednesday TV Ratings 5/12/21: SEAL Team Steady Between Down Kids Say and SWAT, The Masked Singer and Chicago Fire Tick Down, The Conners Stable After Break (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Even as 'Chicago Fire' (0.9) and 'Chicago PD' (0.8) inched down, NBC's lineup remained the night's strongest trio. 'Chicago Med' (0.9) matched its week-ago performance at 8. ABC's comedy lineup was steady all-around, with anchors 'Goldbergs' (0.5) & 'Conners' (0.5) in passable territory and bottom-hour sitcoms 'Home Economics' (0.4) & 'Call Your Mother' (0.3) continuing to struggle. 'A Million Little Things' (0.3) lost a few hundredths at 10. Fox's 'The Masked Singer' (1.0) shed a tenth as 'Game of Talents' (0.5) held even. 'Kids Say' (0.3) and 'SWAT' (0.3) were down on CBS, with 'Seal Team' (0.4) unchanged in the middle. 'Kung Fu' (0.1) fell on the CW, but 'Nancy Drew held at 0.1.

Finals Update: 'The Masked Singer' (1.1, +0.1), 'The Goldbergs' (0.6, +0.1), 'The Conners' (0.6, +0.1), 'Home Economics' (0.5, +0.1), 'Kids Say the Dardnest Things' (0.4, +0.1), 'SWAT' (0.4, +0.1), and 'Kung Fu' (0.2, +0.1) adjusted up.

Wednesday TV Ratings 4/21/21: The Masked Singer Steady for Two-Hour Episode, The Conners and Home Economics Sink to New Lows, Chicago Med Ticks Up (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: Fox's 'The Masked Singer' (1.2) remained remarkably steady for a two-hour installment. The series once more topped the evening and was the only one to slip past the 1.0 rating threshold. NBC was close behind with a rising 'Chicago Med' (0.9) and stable helpings of 'Chicago Fire' (0.8) and 'Chicago PD' (0.8). ABC's comedy-majority block somehow reached uglier levels as 'Home Economics' (0.4), 'Call Your Mother' (0.3), and 'A Million Little Things' (0.3) all shed a tenth. In-between, 'The Conners' (0.4) lost two-tenths, dropping to a nasty new series low. 'The Goldbergs' (0.6) looked like a godsend in the 8pm slot, managing to match last week's performance. CBS's 'Price Is Right' special (0.5) was three-tenths below the previous one (0.8), but 'SEAL Team' (0.4) and 'SWAT' (0.4) were unchanged. 'Kung Fu' (0.2) was even in week 3 and led into a 'Nancy Drew' encore (0.1).

Finals Update: Chicago Fire (+0.1), Chicago PD (+0.1), The Conners (+0.1) and SEAL Team (+0.1) adjusted up.

Wednesday TV Ratings 4/14/21: The Conners and The Goldbergs Steady as Home Economics and A Million Little Things Take Hits, Tough as Nails Rises for Finale (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: After a fairly promising start, ABC's 'Home Economics' (0.4) lost two-tenths from its premiere, despite the stability of its 'Goldbergs' lead-in (0.6). Barring an upward adjustment, 'Economics' is already below the season low of previous timeslot occupant 'American Housewife' (0.45). Later on, 'The Conners' (0.6) was relatively steady while 'Call Your Mother' (0.3) shed a clean 50% of its lead-in. At 10, 'A Million Little Things' (0.3) dipped to a new series low for its second Wednesday episode. On the heels of its two-season renewal, CBS's 'Tough As Nails' (0.5) gained a tenth for its season finale. Repeats of 'United States of AI' (0.3/0.3) and 'SWAT' (0.2) followed from there. Fox once again took the lead, with 'The Masked Singer' (1.1) and 'Game of Talents' (0.6) unchanged from last week. NBC had sturdy encores of 'Chicago Med' (0.5), 'Chicago Fire' (0.5), and 'Chicago PD' (0.4). Episode two of 'Kung Fu' (0.2) and the twelfth 'Nancy Drew' (0.1) held even on the CW.

Finals Update: The Masked Singer (+0.1), Home Economics (+0.1), Call Your Mother (+0.1), A Million Little Things (+0.1) and the repeat of Chicago PD (+0.1) adjusted up.
