Preliminary Analysis: After an illustrious run bounced all over the schedule, the two-hour series finale of 'Marvel's Agents of SHIELD' (0.4/0.3) rose a tenth for the 9pm episode but matched its usual performance at 10pm. The 0.4 rating sadly registers as a season high for 'SHIELD', showcasing just how far the series has fallen since its 4.7 A18-49 debut back in 2013. It was ultimately a passable closure by the show's current standards, basically on-par with its 2019 finale (0.4). But its feeble ratings make it clear that it was definitely time to put this drama to rest. Earlier in the night, ABC's 'United We Fall' (0.5) once more held steady and led into a repeat of 'The Goldbergs' (0.4). It's notable to point out that 'Agents of SHIELD' began its run leading into 'The Goldbergs' and it has now finished airing out of the comedy series.
Although the alphabet network had a decent night, there was much brighter news on CBS where 'Big Brother' (1.1) rose a tenth from last week's Wednesday premiere and easily topped the competition. With 'America's Got Talent' sinking below the 1.0 threshold, it's refreshing to know there's at least one show that can still manage ratings of that caliber. But recently-renewed 'Tough as Nails' (0.5) merely matched last week's result and lost over half of its lead-in at 9pm. A 'SEAL Team' encore (0.3) capped things off. NBC's 'America's Got Talent' (0.7) was down significantly from what it would usually pull on Wednesdays and led into an even 'World of Dance' finale (0.6). They closed their night with a 'Chicago PD' repeat (0.3) that matched CBS's 'SEAL Team' and ABC's 'SHIELD'. With 'Ultimate Tag' gone, Fox went ahead with a double-pump of 'MasterChef' repeats (0.3/0.3). The CW's 'The 100' (0.1) and 'Coroner' (0.1) were frozen at last week's numbers.
Finals Update: All shows held their preliminary rating. The 'Agents of SHIELD' series finale averaged a 0.3 rating between the two hours.
