NBC won the night thanks to America's Got Talent, which is still performing extremely weakly by its own standards. It's pulling numbers 50% below last season's ratings and is even heavily down from last year's lesser-viewed results episodes. Considering where the season started, it's a very concerning seasonal trend for AGT, but even with the weaker ratings, it's still one of the top summer shows (it's now in very real danger of slipping behind Big Brother in the seasonal average, as BB is consistently beating it in the ratings lately). After AGT, the Republican Convention saw no boost with the bigger lead-in and held at 0.3, in-line with both Monday's rating on NBC and the DNC's Tuesday rating from last week.
ABC was on the rise from last week's lows, with both the 8 PM Modern Family repeat and the special 9 PM airing of What Would You Do? rising a tenth to 0.4 Even with that rise, the Republican National Convention was at 0.3, no better than the Democratic Convention's rating of the RNC's Monday rating on ABC, both with mildly worse lead-ins.
CBS had a mismatched lineup, starting with an NCIS encore at 0.4. That was easily their top show in viewers and narrowly their top show in the 18-49 demo. After that, they for some reason decided to air Love Island, which was down to a 0.3 with such an incompatible lead-in. Speaking of incompatible lead-in, the RNC had the misfortune of airing behind Love Island once again, and it was steady with Monday. Its 0.2 came in a tenth below last week's Democratic Convention.
Fox had a Hell's Kitchen repeat at 0.4. For some reason, they're still wearing Prodigal Son repeats. Those have always done terrible and last night was no different.
The CW had a mixture of repeats and originals. An original Dead Pixels kicked off the night with a 0.1, and a Dead Pixels repeat also drew a 0.1. Tell Me A Story also was at 0.1.
Finals Update: The 2020 Republican National Convention on ABC (+0.1) adjusted up.
