Below is a first look of our upcoming written six-episode miniseries, POTUS’d. POTUS’d premieres Tuesday, August 25 at 8pm Eastern Time on The TV Ratings Guide! The preview will end at episode 3 to avoid major spoilers.
POTUS’d follows Howard Brooks, a man selected to be Vice President, even though his political views are vastly different than those of the President-elect, and despite the fact that he's just 38 years old. But when Brooks reveals a major secret, Howard must prepare to keep the secret while preparing to be President himself.
Episode 1
BOBBY
Alright, you know the drill. We’re gonna walk over to the arena and get our crowd excited.
BOBBY and HOWARD walk into the arena. Their supporters roar.
BOBBY
Thank you! Thank you everybody! As you know, we have actually won the election. My Vice President, Howard Brooks, will now say a word.
HOWARD replaces BOBBY at the podium and speaks for 20 minutes, getting the crowd excited by going through their agenda and citing the highlights of the campaign. When he is done, Howard and Bobby wave and walk out.
HOWARD
That was a quick speech you gave.
BOBBY
Yeah, but I think I got my point across.
HOWARD
You know, your speeches have been getting shorter and shorter. People are going to think you’re lazy.
BOBBY
I’m not lazy.
HOWARD
You need to prove that to the citizens. Remember, there are already a lot of people who aren’t happy we won.
BOBBY
Look, I don’t know what you’re trying to imply but we’re doing just fine.
HOWARD
Okay. Want to get something to eat?
BOBBY
No, I think I’m gonna go back to my room. I’m feeling a little tired.
HOWARD
It’s 10am and you slept for a solid 10 hours last night.
BOBBY
I wouldn’t say I slept that whole time.
HOWARD
Stresses of being President-elect keeping you up again?
BOBBY
Uh...sure. Yeah, that’s it.
HOWARD
We have another event at 3pm, don’t forget about that. I still don’t know why we’re doing two events in this state in one day, but I’m not the decision-maker.
Episode 2
HOWARD and BOBBY walk into the venue. As BOBBY walks up to the podium, the crowd begins to clap.
BOBBY
Thank you! Thank you everybody! Thank you! Thanks.
The crowd starts chanting his name.
BOBBY
Thank you once again. I will now turn it over to Howard, the next President of the United States.
The crowd stares at BOBBY silently, with some gasping. HOWARD runs out.
HOWARD
He’s kidding everyone!
BOBBY (to HOWARD, but into the microphone)
No I wasn’t.
HOWARD (to the crowd)
Have to appreciate his sarcasm! He really is quite the joker, you wouldn’t know it from his public appearances but let me tell you all, whew, he’s hilarious.
The crowd lets out some slight laughter, some nervously. HOWARD gives a long speech, the same one he has been giving at previous events. When he is done, the crowd starts cheering for BOBBY again. BOBBY does not come back out to greet them. HOWARD walks out of the building and finds BOBBY in the car. BOBBY turns to HOWARD.
BOBBY
Secret’s out.
Episode 3
HOWARD
Once again, screw the party. This is about the country.
BOBBY
You know what? I agree. It’s actually exactly what I told the party chair.
You know what? I agree. It’s actually exactly what I told the party chair.
HOWARD
You told the party chair to screw the party?! When was this?!
You told the party chair to screw the party?! When was this?!
BOBBY
I emailed them earlier today. Hasn’t responded yet though.
HOWARD
Are you kidding me? They’re going to be very mad!
BOBBY
Not my problem.
Not my problem.
