CBS Announces Season Premiere Dates for Elementary and Code Black

CBS has announced today the premiere dates for two of their returning shows that are yet to be scheduled. Both will debut near the end of the regular season and air into the summer.

The sixth season police procedural of Elementary will premiere on Monday, April 30 at 10:00, taking over Scorpion's timeslot. Elementary has a 21 episode order for its sixth season. Originally, 13 episodes were ordered, but CBS upped that order in November. Scorpion, which will conclude its fourth season on April 23, is no stranger to airing its season finale in April. The series concluded its first and second seasons on April 20, 2015 and April 25, 2016, respectively.

The third season of medical drama Code Black will premiere that same week, on Wednesday, May 2 at 10:00, taking over the timeslot from Criminal Minds. This is the timeslot that Code Black aired in during its first two seasons, though both of those seasons aired from September to February. The 13 episodes that the third season will consist of is less than the 18 and 16 that its first and second seasons respectively consisted of. This is the first time that Criminal Minds will end its season in April, but it is only one week earlier than when it ended its seasons in 2015 and 2016.

This leaves one CBS drama unscheduled, international co-production Ransom. The first season of the procedural following a hostage negotiation team aired on Saturdays in early 2017. Also unscheduled is unscripted series Undercover Boss, which usually airs in-season, but may air its entire season in the summer this time around, considering how it was left out of today's news.
