Retro Recommendations: I Love Lucy

Welcome to another day of Retro Recommendations. Today we are focused on the 1950s classic, I Love Lucy. The original series ran for six seasons, from 1951 to 1957. It was the most watched show in the United States for four out of the six seasons on the air and it was the first to end at the top of the Nielsen ratings. Then after the sixth season, thirteen hour-long episodes were aired from 1957 to 1960, and the show was known as the The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.

The series stars Lucille Ball and then-husband Desi Arnaz, with Vivian Vance and William Frawley rounding out the main cast. There were cast tensions behind the scenes, as Vance did not get along with Frawley near the end of the series.

The last episode of the complete series, "Lucy Meets the Moustache" was poignant. Filming was completed on March 2, and the day after that, Ball filed for divorce from Arnaz. We can look at the complete series chronologically and decipher the breakdown of a Hollywood love story and marriage.

And with that, ends this installment of Retro Recommendations. Stay tuned for more shows!
