It was a strong Wednesday night for ABC and Fox, with many of their shows unticking. ABC's The Goldbergs hit its strongest number since week 2, up a tenth from last week. Behind it was Speechless, which disappointed for the umpteenth time this season with a 1.1. It's a stark contrast from its strong Goldbergs retention in Spring 2017. At 9, Modern Family held steady at 1.7, while its lead-out American Housewife continued on its road to recovery, up to 1.3 after an ugly 1.0 a few episodes ago. Designated Survivor managed to beat the Criminal Minds repeat at 10 with an uptick to 0.8 (it still lost the timeslot to NBC's Golden Globes special). NBC had a repeat of The Wall's Christmas special and a Golden Globes 75th Anniversary Special, with both at 0.8. It's not a great result for the special, but it could be worse. The Wall repeat arguably did better though, as it had increased competition and already aired behind the Voice and posted a 0.9, just a tenth higher despite a large lead-in. Fox had Empire and Star, two of its only hit shows, which both made one tenth games. Just two weeks ago, Empire drew a 1.6 in prelims (it later adjusted up), so this is a great result for it. The CW had their Wednesday lineup despite the rest of its lineup being off, and they were mostly unaffected, though Riverdale had 0.5/0.4 halves, a weaker result for it this season. Dynasty continued to be a flop, though nobody's surprised by that. CBS took much of the night off, though Survivor had an episode at 8 which ticked down to 1.7 after last week's 1.8.
