NBC Renew/Cancel #4 [2017-18]: ’Chicago Med’ Starts as a Certain Renewal

Predictions for 12/22/17

As the year comes to a close, here are my current renew/cancel predictions for NBC shows.

Key
Show Title [Average Adults 18-49 rating/Most recent rating]

Chicago Med [1.2/1.1]  - For the most part, Chicago Med has held up well in its third season. While it didn't take advantage of its This Is Us lead-in, the show only dropped a bit without the powerhouse drama and has remained in solid territory. Currently, its 1.2 average is down just a touch from last year's 1.23. Given the steady hold and strong numbers, Med is a lock for a fourth season.

Blindspot [0.7/0.7]  - I've upgraded the veteran drama from 'toss-up' to 'likely renewal'. When Blindspot premiered to a 0.7, its future looked uncertain. But, only 1 of its 7 episodes have wavered from that number. By Friday standards, the series is performing well enough. Plus, it is only a season away from syndication, so that should definitely work in its favor.

Great News [0.85/0.4] - Last night, the peacock network decided to air the struggling sophomore series without the Will & Grace lead-in. As a result, the comedy plummeted to a series low at 8 and hit another one at 8:30. Yes, it was an out-of-timeslot airing, but hitting a 0.4 is simply unacceptable. In fact, a repeat of Will & Grace performed better on Wednesday. Ultimately, the series has thrown away its second chance. I doubt that NBC is willing to waste yet another plush timeslot on a show that has shown zero potential. The series firmly deserves this downgrade and fits perfectly in the 'certain cancellation' category.
