ABC Renew/Cancel - December 15: Designated Survivor is Likely to be Renewed

In this final ABC Renew/Cancel of 2017, I will outline the reasoning for Designated Survivor being "likely to be renewed", I will analyze the week two rating for Agents of SHIELD, and I will discuss what, if anything, the likely Disney-Fox deal and the March season finale scheduling of Fresh Off the Boat mean for the fourth-season show.

Designated Survivor: While it had an impressive premiere rating last fall, Designated Survivor has slipped from there, and is now doing ratings that aren't bad, but also aren't really anything to celebrate. ABC probably wants four full seasons out of it, and the show isn't at a place where it isn't worth trying to get there.

Agents of SHIELD: I'm a little less optimistic about Agents of SHIELD this week, after it fell to a 0.5, but I'm keeping it at "likely to be renewed" for now. I still don't see why Disney would intervene last year but not this year, however that is entirely possible. If I had to give a percentage, I would say that Agents of SHIELD has about a 60% chance of renewal at this point.

Fresh Off the Boat: If you have been following any sort of TV news recently, you are probably aware that Disney plans on buying many assets from FOX, including the television studio 20th Century FOX. Assuming that this deal goes through, ABC would then own Fresh Off the Boat (as well as Speechless), and benefit from the show getting more episodes for syndication purposes. This makes me more optimistic about the show's chances. However, I'm not upgrading it to "certain to be renewed". While it is very close to being there, the scheduling that ABC announced today is slightly concerning. Fresh Off the Boat will be ending its season in March, to make room for the revival of Roseanne. This scheduling makes sense, and is most likely just to give Roseanne a Tuesday timeslot and have it lead into the compatible The Middle. However, there is a small chance that this scheduling could mean that ABC is unhappy with Fresh Off the Boat. So, if Fresh Off the Boat is able to get a syndication deal with its four seasons, I wouldn't be too surprised if it were canceled, though I do not expect that to happen.
