Blackish: Yes, you read the headline correctly. One of ABC's lowest-rated comedies is also their most likely renewal. The show continued to bleed viewers this week, down to a season low 0.42, and that doesn't necessarily scream "sure renewal." However, it doesn't impact its renewal chances in any way. Despite those weak ratings, the show still brings in a ton of money for ABC, thanks to syndication and streaming deals. With it bringing in revenue from those methods, its first-run rastings don't matter all that much. The show is certainly nearing its end point, considering it's seven seasons into its run, but this season won't be its last. It's a CERTAIN RENEWAL.

The Rookie: I held out on analyzing this show last week until we could see its final, unrounded rating for last week's episode, but The Rookie is undoubtedly weaker in its third season. Despite a solid American Idol lead-in, it managed to be one of the lowest-rated 10 PM series of last week, only topping The Con and Soul of a Nation. The 0.39 for its most recent episode was a series low, and inarguably the show's weakest datapoint of the season. It performed better than this with a 0.2 (!) Card Sharks lead-in back in late January (and it had bigger competition that night, as well), so its post-Idol weakness is a bit surprising. I was fully expecting to upgrade it once Idol came around, but it's actually looking worse with this lead-in than it did at the start of the season. Luckily, it seems to be a solid streaming performer and it's co-produced by Disney and ABC, allowing for lower ratings. It remains a LIKELY RENEWAL despite some disappointing results.
