Sunday TV Ratings 3/28/21: Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Has Abysmal Return, The Equalizer Slips, American Idol and The Rookie Stable (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: A month-long break didn't seem to impact CBS's drama lineup too much as 'The Equalizer' (0.7) only lost a few hundredths from its last original (0.75). The Queen Latifah series had solid help from an 'NCAA Basketball'-boosted (1.4) '60 Minutes' (0.9). Later in the evening, 'NCIS: Los Angeles' (0.6) actually managed to pick up a tenth while 'NCIS: New Orleans' (0.5) lost one. ABC's 'The Rookie' (0.4) was also back from a 28-day hiatus, the police procedural tied what it posted for its previous episode. 'Rookie' was preceded by stable installments of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (0.6) and 'American Idol' (0.8). On NBC, 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' (0.2) crashed to its lowest rating ever for its first episode since early February. The dramedy went well below the 0.4s and 0.5s it was garnering on Tuesday nights. 'Zoey' had little assistance from its 'Ellen's Game of Games' lead-in (0.3), but 'Good Girls' (0.3) still built from 'Extraordinary Playlist' in the 10pm slot. Fox started the evening in anemic territory as the 'Cherries Wild' finale (0.1) dropped down to a new series low and 'Bless the Harts' (0.2) eased a tenth. Despite that slippage, 'The Simpsons' (0.4), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.4), and 'Family Guy' (0.4) all held steady. An 8:30 'Great North' repeat (0.3) came within striking distance of its week-ago original (0.35). 'Batwoman' (0.1) and 'Charmed' (0.1) were predictably flat on the CW.
