Sunday TV Ratings 3/14/21: Grammys Drop Over 50%, American Idol and Fox Cartoons Steady, Good Girls Ticks Down (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: 2021 has not been kind to award shows, and the '63rd Grammy Awards' (1.9) proved that audiences are going to continue avoiding these events. Airing on CBS, the ceremony took an alarming nosedive, shedding a whopping 64% from the 2020 'Grammys' (5.4). Although an upward adjustment should push it above a 2.0 rating, it will still end up being over 50% behind the year-ago broadcast. The only silver lining here is that the telecast was down slightly less than the 'Golden Globes' (1.52, -68%), but that's hardly something to write home about. In the 7pm hour, '60 Minutes' (1.2) soared to its strongest performance since mid-January, clearly benefiting from 'Grammys' pre-tune. ABC didn't seem to budge against the music gala as 'American Idol' (0.8) and 'Millionaire' (0.4) remained unchanged. A repeat of 'AFV' (0.6) was only a tenth shy of its week-ago original in the 7pm slot. On NBC, 'Good Girls' (0.3) lost a tenth from its premiere, but the 'Voice' repeat (0.3) and 'Game of Games' (0.3) held even. Fox's 'Cherries Wild' (0.4) inched up while 'Bless the Harts' (0.3), 'The Simpsons' (0.4), 'The Great North' (0.4), 'Bob's Burgers' (0.5), and 'Family Guy' (0.4) were all frozen at last week's numbers. 'Bob's Burgers' was once again the highest-rated program in the lineup. 'Batwoman' (0.1) and 'Charmed' (0.1) were even on the CW.

Finals Update: The '63rd Annual Grammy Awards' (+0.4), 'The Simpsons' (+0.1), and the repeat of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (+0.1) adjusted up. '60 Minutes' (-0.2) adjusted down. This means that the 'Grammys' ends up being down 58% from last year's 5.4 rating and down 51% in total viewers (9.23 million vs. 2020's 18.69 million).
