NBC Renew/Cancel #3 [2017-18]: ’Blindspot’ Starts as a Tossup, ’True Crime’ is Certain to be Canceled

Predictions for 11/19/17

Here are my latest renew/cancel predictions for NBC shows. With a few exceptions, things have remained roughly the same.

Key

Show Title [Average adults 18-49 rating/Most recent rating]

Law & Order: True Crime [1.0/0.9]  - I have downgraded the drama from 'likely cancellation' to 'certain'. Despite airing after a very strong 'This Is Us', the series has severely underperformed. In fact, its ratings would be unsatisfactory even if it didn't have the strong lead-in. But, the main reason for the downgrade is because of the screenshot above. If the network itself advertised Tuesday's episode as the "series finale" then it's definitely not returning (unless it was a typo).

Blindspot [0.7/0.6] - The veteran drama premiered to a 0.7 and stayed at that number for three weeks. For episode 4, the series inched down to a 0.6. Overall, since this is the network that renewed Trial & Error, Great News, and Timeless (all three went as low as a 0.6) and it is only a season away from syndication, I'm keeping it away from the cancellation category for now. But, it isn't owned by the network and will potentially drop even lower, so Blindspot is far from safe.

Great News [1.0/0.7] - NBC gave Great News an amazing timeslot, but it still significantly underperformed. The latest episode managed a meager 0.7 in the Adults 18-49 rating despite having a 1.6 lead-in from Will & Grace. To make matters worse, it was easily the lowest-rated show on the night in question. The peacock network has given it two solid chances and it has not taken advantage of either. Unless Tina Fey manages to help matters out, the show probably won't be returning.

The Brave [1.1/1.0]  - The military drama premiered in weak fashion but has stayed relatively close to that number. For its eight-episode (1.0), it was only one-tenth below renewed Timeless (1.1). If the series can stay close to the 1.0 range without The Voice, then it'll likely be ready for an upgrade. But, for now, it's firmly in the cancellation zone.
