Put Me In Season 3 Episode 12: Carter’s Future

CARTER is sitting in the dugout at a Charleston Capitols’ home game.

LEWIS
You ready to play center field, Carter?

CARTER
No

LEWIS
Why not?

CARTER
What about me screams center field?

LEWIS
Um…nothing in particular. Just a change of scenery.

BEN
You know I played center field for a change of scenery once. Didn’t go all that well.

LEWIS
Also, you know you’re not playing center field today, right?

CARTER
I’m pitching?

LEWIS
Nope. Jaime wanted to talk to you. Surprised you’re even in the dugout at all when you’re supposed to be in that meeting.

CARTER
Why does nobody ever tell me about this stuff?

CARTER walks away frustrated. He meets JAIME in her office.

CARTER
So I’ve been told you expected a meeting with me today.

JAIME
Yes, I did. Surprised nobody told you. I told Lewis all about it.

CARTER
Next time, tell me directly.

JAIME
Speaking of which…I’m not sure how many “next times” there will be. There’s a team interested in you.

CARTER
Not the Capitols?

JAIME
I like you Carter, as a player. But I also like money.

CARTER
What do you value more, me or money?

JAIME
Both.

CARTER
So what team is interested in me?

JAIME
More of a franchise than the major league team itself.

CARTER
Oh great, so you’re sending me to play college baseball.

JAIME
No! But I’ve never seen anyone so interested in a pitcher that they’re willing to give them a pay increase to play in the minors.

CARTER
How much money does this team have?!

JAIME
Not much more than the Capitols, they just like spending it all on the pitchers.

CARTER
Primitives?

JAIME
Yep. Minor leagues with the option of being called up to the majors. And most importantly, $20 million for me to do whatever I want with!

CARTER
Well it seems like we both have our minds made up then.

CARTER leaves.
