Daniel, Joel, Bailey, and Tyler stand next to their respective pods. The Programmer sits in front of a console. Greg stands by The Programmer.
THE PROGRAMMER
Okay, I’m sending Daniel into his subconsciousness so he can talk to his alter ego. While he does that, you all will secure the core of the Refugium. Once Daniel is able to become powerful enough to fight Boss, he can inject the antivirus into the system core and reboot the system. Daniel, I’ve embedded the antivirus in your coding. Understand?
The group nods.
JOEL
(To Daniel)
Sure you don’t want one of us to go with you?
DANIEL
No, I’ll be fine. Greg, are you sure you’ll be alright?
GREG
Dobson asked me to be the Programmer’s bodyguard.
THE PROGRAMMER
I’m honored.
TYLER
So, while we’re in there, what’s happening out here?
THE PROGRAMMER
Dobson says the Luddites are nearing the perimeter. They will hold them off until you succeed in your mission. Once you do, Dobson will… stop them. Then we’ll all enter the sim and be rebooted. I know this goes without saying but… if this doesn't work, then everything… it will all have been for nothing. Good luck.
The group nods. They get into their pods and close their eyes.
INT. UNIVERSITY LIBRARY – DAY
The library is empty. Daniel stands in the middle of the large room. He looks around. He walks over to a study table and looks at another one nearby.
THE OTHER DANIEL
Were you ever going to ask her?
Daniel turns around and standing in front of him is the Other Daniel.
DANIEL
Huh?
THE OTHER DANIEL
If the Green Sky had never happened, were you ever going to ask Bailey out?
DANIEL
I… I don’t know.
THE OTHER DANIEL
Well, I guess it’s true what they say. It takes an apocalypse to summon the courage to ask someone out.
DANIEL
I… I don’t think anyone’s ever said that.
THE OTHER DANIEL
Well
(Chuckle)
I just did.
DANIEL
Daniel…
THE OTHER DANIEL
I know why you're here. I won’t do it.
DANIEL
Please.
THE OTHER DANIEL
If I merge with you, I die.
DANIEL
No. You won’t. We’ll just be… whole.
INT. A WHITE DESERT WASTELAND
The group appears in a flash of light. Immediately, they materialize their weapons. Behind them is a giant grey metal pyramid-like structure.
TYLER
The system core.
JOEL
Okay, let’s secure it.
SUSAN
I’m afraid there won't be time for that.
The group turns around. Standing in front of them are Susan, Jacqueline, Hudson, and Ultimus Elite.
JOEL
Jacqueline.
Joel walks up to Jacqueline and they hug. Tyler fist bumps Hudson. Joel looks up at Ultimus.
JOEL
It’s good to see you all again.
ULTIMUS
Now, don’t get sappy on us.
TYLER
I thought you all were stuck in Cyberia.
SUSAN
Just like you, I’ve been busy. I managed to repair Jacqueline and Hudson’s programming. Of course, when the Refugium is rebooted, they'll be back to their full selves.
BAILEY
You said we didn’t have time to secure the core building?
SUSAN
As we speak, Boss and his army are approaching this area. If he enters that building, he’ll destroy the entire simulation. We need to hold him off until Daniel returns.
JOEL
We’ll give him every moment he needs.
There is a rumbling noise. It grows louder and louder. In the distance, is Boss and an army of Bots. Next to Boss, is Claire and Gary.
TYLER
Alrighty, let’s do this.
INT. LEVEL CONTROL ROOM - DAY
Dobson watches the screens and monitors. The Luddites approach the building. They fire their weapons at the building.
EXT. LEVEL - DAY
As the Luddites fire their weapons at soldiers and helicopters, Adrian, Diana, and a few other Luddites circle around.
The Luddite army pushes forward. Some of them are shot. Multiple Level soldiers are shot and/or killed by explosions.
INT. LEVEL CONTROL ROOM - DAY
SOLDIER
Sir, they’re reaching the perimeter.
FREDDY DOBSON
Have they reached the mark?
SOLDIER
Yes sir.
FREDDY DOBSON
Ignite it.
The soldier presses a button.
EXT. LEVEL - DAY
There is a blinding flash of white and orange light. The light lasts for a few seconds and then dissipates.
All that is left is a mass pile of blackened and charred skeletal remains.
Adrian and Diana along with the last remaining Luddites look on.
DIANA
Bastards.
ADRIAN
We're almost to the entrance.
INT. POD ROOM - DAY
The Programmer and Greg watch on a screen everything that has happened.
GREG
W-what the hell?
THE PROGRAMMER
I knew they had weapons not known to the world but never like this. Some… massive incendiary bomb.
GREG
So… it’s over. We just have to stop Boss.
THE PROGRAMMER
Yes.
(To himself)
I’m so sorry Diana.
INT. WHITE DESERT WASTELAND
Both sides stare at each other.
BOSS
I guess this is where it ends! Tell me, where is Daniel!
The group stands ready with their weapons drawn.
BOSS
So, I guess even in the end we’ll be fighting.
JOEL
Yeah, and once and for all, you are going to DIE!
The group charges at the opposing army. Boss begins charging at the group. The Bot army along with Gary and Claire follow.
The two sides close in on each other. The last battle has only just begun.
