Preliminary Analysis: Even with Ariana Grande added to the panel of judges, NBC's 'The Voice' (1.0) debuted two tenth below last year's opener. Nonetheless, the series still eclipsed ABC's season premiere of 'Dancing with the Stars' (0.9) by a comfortable margin. 'Dancing' was a whopping four-tenths behind its 2020 start but only a tenth shy of its 2019 premiere. At 10, the series premiere of NBC's 'Ordinary Joe' (0.5) lost more than half of its 'Voice' lead-in and could only narrowly beat out ABC's 'Time100' (0.4). CBS had a rough return to the fall season, with comedies 'The Neighborhood' (0.6) and 'Bob Hearts Abishola' (0.5) each tying their respective series lows. 'NCIS' (0.7) was able to build from the comedies in its new timeslot and remained close to its late-spring levels. At 10, 'NCIS Hawai'i' (0.5) had a mediocre debut and didn't look meaningfully stronger than the average installment of 'Bull'. Fox's '9-1-1' (0.8) debuted with a new series low out the gate, coming in a whopping four-tenths lower than its winter 2021 premiere. New drama 'The Big Leap' (0.4) lost 50% of that audience and is already positioned to be on the chopping block. The CW had a stable 'Roswell, New Mexico' (0.1) and a rerun of 'Penn & Teller' (0.1).
Finals Update: 'The Voice' (+0.1) adjusted up. 'The Big Leap' (-0.1) and 'Time100' (-0.1) adjusted down.
