Superstore: Today, NBC announced the shocking news that Superstore would come to an end this season after six seasons on the air, a run much shorter than I had anticipated for the veteran comedy. Superstore is NBC's longest-running sitcom and is the only comedy on the fall schedule aside from the quickly-canceled flop Connecting. It basically coasted to renewal since it premiered, and this was the first season that I didn't start it out as a certain renewal. There were some signs that the end was coming soon, as ratings were much weaker this season and contracts needed to be re-upped soon. However, the future of NBC comedy is in question with its strongest element on its way out. Perhaps another worrying sign for Superstore was the number of new comedies that NBC ordered. Mr. Mayor, The Kenan Show and Young Rock are all supposed to be premiering this season. Personally, I see it as unlikely that any of these three will go on to have runs as long or successful as Superstore, but they could get a decent performer from the bunch. I'll be keeping a very close watch on NBC's comedy department this season, starting in January when Mr. Mayor makes its debut.
