Bar Exam Season 2 Episode 9: Lorenzo’s Interview (Writer’s Pick)

LORENZO walks into Lorenzo’s Kitchen. The door is unlocked as always, but the regular group of lawyers is not there. HARRY walks in behind him.

HARRY
Think you scared them away?

LORENZO
No way. They’re probably running late.

ADAM (from behind)
Yeah, sorry about our lateness.

LORENZO looks behind him and sees ADAM alongside REAGAN, CHASE, SAM, LINCOLN, and MADISON.

LORENZO
You decided to come!

SAM
It’s a big day for you today. You have an interview.

LORENZO
I’m still confused, is this an interview or an interrogation?

SAM
Kind of both. Just relax and be professional.

HARRY
He is completely incapable of doing both of those at the same time.

LORENZO
Well I trust that Team Broken Glasses has things under control.

REAGAN
Hopefully. Anyways, our client is going to walk in, you’ll have a little conversation, Lincoln will film it, it’ll go online, and Lorenzo’s Kitchen will succeed.

LORENZO
And you’re sure this is a foolproof plan to get me more customers?

LINCOLN
No, but it’s worth a shot.

REAGAN
Here he comes now. I’ll greet him at the door.

REAGAN greets the man at the door. She walks back to the group with him and introduces him as JERRY.

LORENZO
How are you, Jerry?

JERRY
For one, I still have a broken nose. Let’s do the interview.

LORENZO sits down at a table across from JERRY.

LORENZO
So Jerry—

LINCOLN
I’m not ready to film yet!

After a long pause—

LINCOLN
Ready!

LORENZO
So Jerry—

LINCOLN
I didn’t say action yet.

LORENZO
Didn’t know we were doing this like a movie.

LINCOLN
And...action!

LORENZO
So Jerry—

LINCOLN
Cut!

CHASE
What are you doing, Lincoln?

LINCOLN
I forgot to tell you, Lorenzo, that Jerry is the one who will be asking the questions.

MADISON
Really? That doesn’t sound right.

LINCOLN
It’s how we decided to do it. Alright, action again!

JERRY
I visited Lorenzo’s Kitchen a while back, great place. Any menu items you would like to talk about?

LORENZO
Thank you for asking. We’re known for our cotton candy, burgers, milk, pasta, cotton candy, hot dog ice cream, and cotton candy, mostly.

JERRY
What’s your personal favorite item?

LORENZO
Mine is the mango-colored cotton candy. Tastes like lime.

JERRY
What’s been the most challenging part of opening Lorenzo’s Kitchen?

LORENZO
Are you calling me challenged?

JERRY
No, I’m just asking about the most challenging part. Standard question.

LORENZO
Standard question? That sounds pretty demeaning that you think I can’t answer it.

JERRY
Evidently you can’t. Moving on—

LORENZO
No, not moving on. I’m not challenged!

JERRY
I never said you were.

LORENZO
And I’m not challenging either! I don’t have challenges!

JERRY
Fine.

LORENZO
You’re a bad interviewer, did you know that?

JERRY
Excuse me?

LORENZO
You don’t know what you’re talking about.

JERRY
Okay, I’m done. Please do not ask me to interview you again.

JERRY gets up and walks out of Lorenzo’s Kitchen. LINCOLN stops taping.

LINCOLN
What was that?

LORENZO
Sorry. He was driving me crazy!

MADISON
I think you completely misunderstood him. He was asking you about the most challenging part of opening Lorenzo’s Kitchen.

LORENZO
The most challenging part? Oh, that would be bringing in customers in a time where people are afraid to go to restaurants.

ADAM
Why didn’t you tell him that! I’m not even on Team Broken Glasses and I’m mad.

LORENZO
One-on-one nerves, I suppose.

HARRY
I’ve never seen you angry like that.

LORENZO
I wasn’t angry. I panicked.

LINCOLN
Clearly. Alright, that’s a setback for Team Broken Glasses.

CHASE
Luckily, we have an interview set up with you and our sore throat guy.

MADISON
Luckily?

LORENZO
I’ll do better with this next one.
