NBC Renew/Cancel: Final Fall Predictions

Hello everyone, welcome to the final NBC renew/cancel predictions of 2016! With almost all of NBC's shows taking a break for the holiday season and their ratings staying essentially the same, it's time to take a look back on the season so far.

*Updated with current average ratings and premiere dates for upcoming shows

KEY
  • Show title (Average adults 18-49 rating / most recent rating)

CERTAIN TO BE CANCELED
  • None
As of right now, nothing is certain to be canceled on NBC. This season is very rare for the peacock network, for nothing has gone fractional and their scripted department is actually up to par with the other networks. This only makes my job a lot harder...

LIKELY TO BE CANCELED
  • Blindspot (1.2 / 1.1)
  • Timeless (1.3 / 1.2)
I believe that NBC is going to have to let at least two shows go at the end of the season, and, as of right now, Blindspot and Timeless are the most likely in my view. Some people would switch out one of these for The Blacklist, but all three are generally getting the same ratings and The Blacklist has the most seasons under its belt and a big streaming deal with Netflix. That is why I think Blindspot and Timeless are probably goners. The only thing that can save them is a HORRIBLE midseason for NBC, which is not out of the question.

COULD GO EITHER WAY
  • The Blacklist (1.2 / 1.2)
I moved The Blacklist down from "likely to be renewed" to "could go either way" because of how well NBC is doing as a whole. They could be getting to the point of just not needing The Blacklist anymore. I still view The Blacklist's chances as "leaning renewal," but it is going to stay in this territory for right now.

LIKELY TO BE RENEWED
  • The Good Place (1.5 / 1.2)
Superstore and The Good Place will both very likely be back next year to help expand NBC's comedy comeback. I will wait until their [its] January ratings to move them [it] up to "certain to be renewed," though.

CERTAIN TO BE RENEWED
  • Chicago Fire (1.6 / 1.7)
  • Chicago Med (1.3 / 1.4)
  • Chicago P.D. (1.4 / 1.2)
  • Law & Order: SVU (1.5 / 1.3)
  • Superstore (1.3 / 1.3)
  • This Is Us (2.6 / 2.8)
Every show in this category is pretty self-explanatory. If you don't agree with one of these, leave your thoughts in the comments and we will chat about it.

UPDATES

This Is Us finished its fall season with a return to a season high of a 2.8 rating. If this isn't a lock for renewal, I don't know what is.

After some consideration, I have decided to move Superstore up to "certain to be renewed." There's no way this show is getting canceled at this point.
