Crazy Ex is Getting Terrible Ratings and Deserves to be Canceled. Why is it Still Likely to be Renewed?
Two reasons...it's a critical darling and it's a CBS produced show that airs on Fridays.
Rachel Bloom was announced as one of the nominees for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical during the Golden Globes nomination announcements this morning. This is not the first time a CW show has a Golden Globe nomination, and I suspect it is what likely got Jane the Virgin its second season renewal two seasons ago. That would be one of the most plausible reasons that Crazy Ex was renewed for a second season, and will likely be back for a third.
Crazy Ex also airs on Fridays, which is a night where ratings are tolerated at 20-30% lower ratings than Monday-Thursday shows. Spotted Ratings has been keeping up with its True A18-49 average and Renewology percentage. Its current Renewology is a 58%, and while this suggests that its a bubble show, this tells us that it's leaning more towards renewal.
With the numbers now explained, I think it would be hard to argue against it.
