Now, social media doesn't mean all that much when it comes to ratings necessarily. For example, Scream Queens does infinitely better with social media in comparison to its live ratings, while I'm pretty sure that the north of 60 million people who "like" The Simpsons on Facebook don't tune in every week.
Here are the new fall shows by network as of June 20, 2016, by the number of Twitter followers they currently have. While they may not necessarily lead to ratings, early social media numbers do still tell how the shows are doing in early buzz. Take a look, and let us know what you think in the comments below!

But...What About Midseason?
Just because a network doesn't premiere a show in the fall doesn't mean they don't have faith in it. In fact, some of the shows with the most hype on Twitter right now won't be premiering until midseason.
There are several midseason shows which are already doing very well on Twitter. One is The CW's Riverdale, which has already collected more than 1,700 followers on Twitter despite not even having a time slot, which places it at #7 in Twitter followers for new broadcast TV shows already, way above The CW's other two offerings. The second one is Downward Dog on ABC, which has over 1,400 Twitter followers, meaning it has almost caught up to fall entry American Housewife and has done better than almost all the shows on the other networks. There is also workplace comedy Powerless on NBC, which as of this writing has barely edged out Timeless; in other words, it's way ahead of the comedy they chose to premiere in the fall. A little bit ahead of Powerless is NBC's fantasy drama Emerald City, which has been in development for some time now and is finally supposed to air. And doing better than all listed above is The Blacklist: Redemption, which has slightly edged out This is Us in terms of Twitter followers. Oh yeah, and Chicago Justice already has over 6,000 Twitter followers.
An honorable mention goes to Making History on FOX, which actually has a few more followers than Son of Zorn, the show it is scheduled to take over for midseason. The same can't be said for The Mick or Star, at least not yet.
