Sunday TV Ratings 5/24/20: Titanic Sinks, Little Big Shots Ends on New Low, NASCAR Leads Silent Night (UPDATED)

The Sunday before Memorial Day wasn't blessed with any strong ratings, with every show multiple tenths under the league average.

As always, Fox aired a NASCAR race. The Coca-Cola 600 was down about a tenth year-to-year, the only thing about this night that could be described as "impressive." The race beat out the competition and gave Fox a nightly win by about two tenths.

ABC's game show repeats failed to dazzle in the way they so often do, though they weren't a far cry off last year's pre-Memorial Day results. Celebrity Family Feud had a decent-by-this-night's-standards 0.5, while Press Your Luck and Match Game, both new to the Sunday lineup after airing on Wednesdays last year, both attracted 0.4s. An AFV repeat at 7 received 0.5.

CBS aired Titanic, the iconic Oscar-winning film, for all four hours of primetime, with a rare 60 Minutes preemption at 7. It's hard to imagine 60 Minutes performing worse than Titanic, which hit a ratings iceberg with only a 0.4. At the very least, it grew during the night and wasn't a far cry from Mission: Impossible last week.

NBC said goodbye (certainly forever) to Little Big Shots. It hit a series low for the two episodes it aired. The 7 PM showing drew a pitiful 0.2, hitting an even more pitiful 0.1 in the second half. The 8 PM showing did a bit "better" with 0.2s in both halves. That's something, I guess. The Wall aired its last episodes before moving to Monday. Scheduling for this show has been absolutely atrocious, with it now having aired in all four Sunday hours within its ten-episode run. That certainly didn't help it any in the ratings. It drew 0.3 in both hours, with a 0.2 for the first half of its first episode. We'll see how it transfers to Monday but things don't look terribly promising from here.

The CW had repeats, both at 0.1.

Sunday TV Ratings 5/17/20: The Simpsons and Supergirl Up for Season Finales, Family Guy and American Idol End Steady (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: On a night packed with finales, 'American Idol' (1.0) took the top spot as far as originals go. The singing competition series was steady week-to-week but still paled in comparison to its year-ago closer (1.5). It was sandwiched between a solid 'AFV @ Home' (0.7) at 7 and a poorly-rated Taylor Swift special (0.5) at 10.

Some indirect NASCAR juice in the 7pm hour helped 'The Simpsons' (0.6), 'Duncanville' (0.4), and 'Bob's Burgers' (0.5) all rise a tenth for their finales. 'Family Guy' (0.5) was steady for its at 9:30. Despite the upticks, the inflated repeats of 'The Simpsons' (1.1) and 'Bob's Burgers' (0.6) beat out the original episodes of those shows in the 7pm hour. On a year-to-year basis, 'Simpsons' was actually up a tick from last year. 'Bob's' was a tenth below its year-ago closer while 'Family Guy' was two-tenths below the 0.7 rating it posted last year.

CBS had a stable '60 Minutes' (0.7) leading into a presentation of the Tom Cruise film 'Mission Impossible' (0.4). The latter trailed last week's showing of 'Forest Gump' (0.7). The night was capped off with a random repeat of recently-canceled 'Man with a Plan' (0.3). One can only wonder why CBS would air encores of a show they removed from their roster.

NBC's 'Little Big Shots' (0.3) was even at 7pm but 'The Wall' (0.3) dropped down to a nasty new low for a 10pm edition. In the middle was an equally low-rated 'Beverly Hills Dog Show' (0.3). The CW saw an uptick for the 'Supergirl' finale (0.2) while 'Batwoman' (0.2) held steady.

Final Update: The repeat of Bob's Burgers (-0.1) adjsuted down.

Sunday TV Ratings 5/3/20: Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and Good Girls Rise for Finales, American Idol and Family Guy Drop, Supergirl Returns with Series Low (UPDATED)

Preliminary Analysis: ABC still won the night but its lead was a lot less pronounced as the return of 'AFV' (0.7) shed three-tenths and 'American Idol' (0.9) inched down. Despite that, 'The Rookie' (0.7) held steady at 10. CBS's '60 Minutes' (0.7) lost two-tenths but a special presentation of 'Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark' (0.6) was essentially in-line with how last week's drama finales, 'God Friended Me' (0.6/0.5) & 'NCIS: LA' (0.5), performed. NBC had upticks across the board with 'The Wall' (0.5) & the finales of 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' (0.4) and 'Good Girls' (0.4). But 'Little Big Shots' (0.3) failed to rise at 7. The cartoon lineup got a little weaker on Fox as 'Duncanville' (0.3) and 'Family Guy' (0.5) both lost a tenth. This was a new low for 'Duncan' while 'Family Guy' merely matched its previous one. Anchors 'Simpsons' (0.5) and 'Bob's Burgers' (0.5) were steady at their series lows. Batwoman' (0.2) was even on the CW but the return of 'Supergirl' (0.1) dropped to a new low.

Finals Update: 60 Minutes (+0.1) adjusted up. The repeat of Man With a Plan (-0.1) adjusted down.

Sunday TV Ratings 4/5/20: Our Country Ties for Second Place, American Idol and Good Girls Drop

ABC's lineup remained dominant on Sunday evening but 'America's Funniest Home Videos' (1.0) and 'American Idol' (1.2) were each down a tenth from their last installments. There was brighter news for 10pm drama 'The Rookie' (0.8) which held steady with its last broadcast even as its lead-in slipped.

Over on CBS, '60 MInutes' (0.9) lost a tenth but a brodacast of 'ACM Presents: Our Country' (1.0) picked up the slack at 8pm. The latter performed significantly better than a usual showing of timeslot occupant 'God Friended Me'. The night was capped off with a rebroadcast of 'Garth & Trisha Live' (0.7), it was just a tenth of a point below its original broadcast on Wednesday (0.8).

The already disastrous NBC lineup got a tiny bit worse as veteran drama 'Good Girls' (0.4) inched down from its last episode at 10. The small consolation was that the the rest of this poorly-rated showcase ('Little Big Shots' (0.4), 'The Wall' (0.5), 'Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist' (0.4) did not drop any further, all programs matching their previous outings.

Fox took the night off and hosted an evening of animated comedy repeats (0.3/0.3/0.4/0.4/0.5/0.5). The 8:30pm repeat of 'Duncanville' (0.4) actually matched the rating it posted for its last original episode. The same feat was accomplished by the 'Bob's Burgers' repeat (0.5) at 9.

The CW had encores of 'Batwoman' (0.1) and 'Supergirl' (0.1).

Final numbers to come.
