CW Renew/Cancel: Which CBS-Produced Show Escapes the Chopping Block?

Welcome to a new installment of the CW Renew/Cancel Watch. A week has gone by since premiere week, and other than Jane the Virgin entering, there is no change in prediction status.

Jane the Virgin: This show has been booted to Fridays and premiered with a 0.3 A18-49 rating. It also scored the same demo number in A18-34. The reason why it is in the Watching column is that it is in season 4 with a reduced episode order and will be past the 70 episode mark. However, it is on the high end of the bubble as I am applying the Friday factor with Jane. Getting a 0.3 on Friday is noticeably better than getting a 0.2-0.3 on a weeknight. The Originals will end its run with 93 episodes, but the CW renewed it because two Julie Plec shows cannot end in one season despite negative business relations. Since then, the relations between Plec and CW are somewhat improving, with Plec signing a new deal with Warner Bros. In addition, Crazy Ex may be the only CBS show that is certain to return for another season.

Dynasty: This same rationale applies to Dynasty. Dynasty is still on the bubble as it is the only show on the network that is fully produced by CBS Studios. Valor is a CBS/WB coproduction with CBS getting distribution rights. For that reason, Valor remains likely to be canceled, and it is tied with Crazy Ex as the lowest rated show on broadcast in rounded ratings. Being fully produced by one production company surely adds breathing room for the show.

The most interesting part of this scenario is that it depends on which newbie gets the backorder. I think the most interesting part this season will be which CBS show will join Crazy Ex in the renewal battle. We'll know more with more data points.
