The Bullpen Season 6 Episode 11: Top Of The Sixth
ROBERT, ACE, VICTOR, BRYAN, MANNY, and DEVIN are enjoying hot dogs made by HARRY when they hear boos erupt from the crowd.
VICTOR
Is it just me or have we been getting booed more than usual today?
MANNY
I’ll take care of this one.
MANNY looks behind him to the crowd.
MANNY
YEAH WE GET FREE HOT DOGS, DEAL WITH IT!
ACE
I don’t get what they’re so uptight about, we haven’t done anything too controversial all game.
MANNY
Well it seems like I shut the crowd up so we should be good for the rest of the game!
The crowd starts booing again.
MANNY
What is it with these people?!
ROBERT
You know what? They’re probably mad about how we didn’t wear uniforms last week.
DEVIN
Or maybe they’re mad that we’re back to wearing uniforms.
BRYAN
Yeah that could be it, Devin.
ROBERT
It’s just baffling to me why suddenly the crowd hates us so much.
ACE
I know, I feel bad for Lorenzo. This drove the poor guy out of the stadium.
DEVIN
Lorenzo left?
HARRY
That’s the type of thing you should easily notice.
DEVIN
Not when the crowd’s booing us this much.
VICTOR
Why don’t we just go into the crowd and ask them why they hate us so much today? Then we can at least get some closure.
ACE
You kidding? They hate us! We can’t possibly go in there!
MANNY
Maybe if we call Jason he’ll tell us what to do.
ROBERT
Good idea.
MANNY starts to call the dugout.
BRYAN
What a second — what if he asks for Lorenzo?
MANNY hangs up.
The crowd starts to boo again.
MANNY
Alright, I guess they wanted me to call the dugout!
ACE
Don’t do it Manny.
MANNY
I’m not, I just don’t get why want us to call the dugout so badly.
The crowd starts cheering.
MANNY
What did we even do now?
CARTER, FELIX, and DAVE walk over to the bench. They had been watching the game at the other side of the bullpen near the outfield.
DAVE
Guys. The crowd is not booing you. They are not cheering for you. There’s a Wild Card game going on. We win, we advance. We lose, we’re out. You might want to try watching the game some time.
DEVIN
Phew, really thought I was in trouble there. So what’s the score?
CARTER
We’re winning 7 to nothing.
ACE
Seriously?! What are they booing about?!
FELIX
Uptight crowd, not used to seeing the team play in the Wild Card game.
VICTOR
This is such a relief, for a while I thought everyone hated me! We better clear everything up with Lorenzo so he knows it’s safe to come back.
DAVE rolls his eyes.
DAVE
I don’t know about anyone else but I’m going back to watching the game.
The Bullpen Season 6 Episode 12: Bottom Of The Sixth
As the bottom of the sixth inning begins, LORENZO comes running back into the bullpen.
LORENZO
Guys! You’ll NEVER believe what I heard while I was gone.
HARRY
Let me guess, they have extra guys selling cotton candy because it’s the Wild Card game?
LORENZO
They have extra guys selling cotton candy?!?! I gotta get some!
MANNY
Why don’t you tell us your actual news. Our team’s gonna win this game and the next game’s gonna have even more cotton candy.
LORENZO
Why has nobody ever told me this about the playoffs?!
HARRY
Why would we?
DEVIN
What Harry’s trying to say is we figured you knew.
HARRY
That’s not what I’m trying to say at all.
DAVE
Can we get the news already because as I’ve said, there’s a game going on and I kinda want to watch it.
FELIX
Yeah Lorenzo, this better be good.
LORENZO
Okay, yeah, my news. So I found out that they might be doing major renovations to the stadium in the offseason.
Everyone stares at LORENZO blankly.
CARTER
How do you figure?
LORENZO
It’s on the ballot! Voters approve and we’re getting renovations!
ACE
What I’m hearing is you were a state rep for two years and never thought of this.
LORENZO
I didn’t even know I could do this.
ROBERT
Would you if you knew you could?
LORENZO
Probably not. But we need to put together our list of demands.
BRYAN
Our what now?
LORENZO
Our list of demands. Stuff that we want in the bullpen in the renovated stadium.
HARRY
I want a better grill.
BRYAN
What if we get like another updated super high tech bench?
LORENZO
I like it, what does this bench have?
BRYAN
Uh…I don’t know.
ACE
What about a better view? I propose we put the bullpen right next to the big screen in the outfield.
FELIX
What happens when you throw a ball astray and it goes into the crowd?
ACE
It’s a baseball game, the crowd should expect there to be baseballs. Plus, they booed me today so I guess we’d be even.
CARTER
For the last time they didn’t boo you.
FELIX
Not today at least.
ROBERT
I do kinda like the idea of moving the bullpen though. This one’s been here forever.
VICTOR
There’s only so much you can do to a bullpen.
FELIX
If we really wanted to improve this place we’d get rid of the bench and make it completely a warm-up area. You know, for people who actually pitch.
LORENZO
I like that idea, dedicated space to warm up!
ACE
But we barely even use that space to begin with, I say we ditch the warmup mounds. Who needs to warm up?
BRYAN
Yeah, think of all we could do with this space if we didn’t have those mounds in the way.
LORENZO
Completely opposite to Felix’s idea but I like the creativity! I’ll bring these proposals up with the general manager.
MANNY
The proposals being…making this entire space a place to warm up, and getting rid of the warmup areas completely?
LORENZO
Yep.
MANNY
Good luck with that.
LORENZO
Thank you. Now if you don’t mind I need to find myself the cotton candy man…
