St. Denis Medical Renewed by NBC

NBC's first renewal of the season has arrived. Freshman sitcom St. Denis Medical, which debuted to strong ratings and has thus far settled as NBC's top comedy, has received a renewal for a second season, just six episodes into its run. While the series was unable to hold anywhere near the 0.51 rating it premiered to, the 0.3s it has drawn for most episodes since are still a solid outing for an NBC comedy, with most of the Peacock networks' comedies often struggling to remain competitive with the other networks. It currently rates as NBC's #3 series this season, narrowly out-rating long-running hits like SVU and Chicago PD. The series is also said to be a strong streaming performer for NBC, with the network touting the show's growth on streaming in the week after its premiere, rising over 80% from its live rating that week. NBC showed confidence in this show early on, extending its season one order months before it even began, and giving it the 8 PM anchor slot on Tuesday, pushing Night Court to the bottom of the hour in the process. The series stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, Kaliko Kauahi and David Alan Grier, who was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for his work on the series, with the show also receiving a nod for Best Comedy Series. This is a correct prediction for The TV Ratings Guide.
