Streaming Status: Renew/Cancel Predictions for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Those About To Die, & More

Below are renewal and cancelation predictions for scripted shows with outstanding fates on Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, and Paramount+. Predictions are made primarily based on how accessible a show is on its respective streamer, alongside other unique factors that as discussed in the analysis. The ‘Main Home Page Appearances’ and ‘Main Originals Page Appearances’ categories refers to how many times a show appears in non-customized home page and originals page sliders without having to swipe through those sliders. This gives a broad picture of how prominently a show is featured. ‘Overall Home Page Appearances’ factors in all shows featured in the sliders. This prediction method has been developed and refined over the past couple years. It’s now been slimmed down to two categories: the shows in red are predicted to be canceled as of the time of publishing, and the shows in green are predicted to be renewed. All data was collected on Saturday, January 4. Let us know what you think in the comments!

Record Since Last Edition

The renewals of Bel-Air and Mayor of Kingstown, as well as the cancelation of In The Know, are all correct predictions since the previous edition of Streaming Status. The lone incorrect prediction is the renewal of Hulu’s Tell Me Lies. While predicted to be canceled due to the long hiatus between seasons and overall lack of visibility, it was notably the only Hulu show in the table to be featured on the Originals page without having to scroll through the sliders. In retrospect, this was a positive sign for the show’s outlook.

Prediction Table

Prediction Changes

There is one prediction change from cancelation to renewal from the previous edition: Peacock’s horror-thriller drama Hysteria! has been bumped up to a renewal prediction. The show’s presence has diminished from the originals page, but increased on the home page. A renewal is by no means guaranteed, but its chances are looking better than many of Peacock’s other series with outstanding fates.

There is also a prediction change from renewal to cancelation: Peacock’s historical drama Those About To Die. It was already an iffy renewal prediction, one made only because of its initial performance where it made the Nielsen streaming chart. Now, it’s down to zero appearances on the home page sans scrolling through the sliders, and only one when you do so. While it could still be renewed, it’s been de-prioritized to the point where predicting it as such is unjustifiable.

New Series

There are also two new series to debut in this edition: Disney+’s latest Star Wars series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and the Peacock comedy Laid. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has ample exposure, but this is largely due to the fact that its inaugural season is currently ongoing. Its $136 million budget is likely too high to justify a renewal that did not make Luminate’s streaming chart in its first two weeks of eligibility.

Laid is looking a bit more promising, at least for now. It was only released two and a half weeks ago, meaning its exposure will likely decrease over time. For now, it looks to be on the right path.
